just been through this , if you have a blocked or frayed fuel line or filter a leaking hose will drain fuel and take longer to crank over ect.
ur a bedford owner ....adapt overcome work it out

try bypassing the ignition. ignition may not be contacting properly and sending power to the coil.

What motor? mechanical or electric fuel pump?
Disconnect the fuel line out of the fuel pump and connect a rubber hose into a dish, crank the motor to check that it has consistent flow.
Check the spark plugs after it dies, if they're fouled up its likely part of your problem.

Could be needle and seat in the carby, could be gaskets in the carby causing flooding. Could be as simple as poor idle tune fouling the plugs, tho unlikely.

As Craig said, check the hose connections, quality and the fuel filter

As Ben said resistored power cables to the coil could be causing the issue also. Make up a cable with a switch from the battery to the coil only has to be temporary for testing purposes.

Is it any different with the air filter housing off? better or worse?

What gas system is it and how does it connect? better yet post a photo.
If impco 300a style with the snorkel, its possibly due to poor sealing on the seperate sections of the snorkel (unless yours is a solid type)

Theres a few things to try, tho more information would be helpful

Thanx for the advice, All is well, First when I got it started I let it run for 15 mins then the battery went flat straight away  when I tried to start so looks like I need new Battery  ( Ebay brought 6 months) could be the alternator,  still double checkin,
I put the points in without cleaning (new) Could that have been the problem, Do they still have a protected film on them . Also coil was reading  9.68 and 2 the new one was 15.74 and 2 so I assume that’s no good,         thanx Pete

do you have the petrol tank vented - try running with petrol cap off
