where are your batteries mounted?

G'day, in response to a q from restoried I thought it appropriate that we start a new topic. I have my batteries mounted under the passenger side where the original battery frame is located, bit of a squeeze for a starter batt and a deep cycle batt, but nonetheless they both fit. I did have the starter batt in the passenger footwell and even tried under the passenger front seat but was told that batteries give off fumes so did't fancy the idea of sleeping in the campa with toxic fumes. I placed them into the original position and sealed the lid. How have others mounted them?

acid batteries give off the poisonous fumes, they are combustable 2,
but im not sure about the sealed batteries the gell ones used in wheelchairs, get some expert advice, but if these batteries are fumeless they might be your option of installing under passanger seat.

sounds good i think ill run my van on these fumes.. so if everyone can put there bateries inside and contain the gas for me il come round and collect it once a week ok. and ill charge you to take it away also.

Hi guys Batteries under the seat is not a very good idea you have to have the seat up higher & hinged so you can swing it over to get at the battery mine was like that & was a pain in the bum there were no slides on the seat & it was too high so when I put the new seats in I cut the bases down 50mm so they look good now Cheers Reid

yea mine are mounted in the original postion which has been extended waiting to do my dual setup, i saw a bloke at work once welding beside a battery he was charging up a real clown he was and bang up it when lucky he wasn't hurt, so i would give the acid once a miss inside your van

yeah, ive seen a few acid batteries explode, not much fun i can tell ya.
so i wouldnt have one inside the cab, unless it was a sealed gel one, no poisonous gas kind.

Hi everyone. Have a mate here in sunny QLD and he has put the batteries in the passenger step,  (sealed so no fumes into the cab). But he has also cut the bottom of the doors and put running boards on so that he can get in and out of the van, because no more inside step.  Also makes the doors a bit lighter.  The drivers side he has made into an esky to keep his cans of coke cold on long trips.
