reversing lights

Just a quick question. I swapped my Aussie 3 speed for a celica 5 speed some time ago, but I've only just got around to connecting the reverser switch. I never took any notice before, but now I get both rear indicators on (not flashing) when in reverse. Is this the normal setup with standard tail lights (which don't seem to have a dedicated reverse light). I'll check this weekend to see how it behaves with the trailer connected

It is standard to have the indicators used as reversing lights for vehicles of the beddys vintage.

If you want a brighter reversing light then get a small LED flood light and wire it into the reversing circuit.

If you want to use a high current spot light think about running it off a fused relay from the battery.

Well as long as they're supposed to do that. I was just hoping I hadn't joined the wrong wire. I think the lights will be bright enough, they're mainly to tell other people to get out the way, rather than see where I'm going

the best solution for getting them out of the way is a reversing alarm. You can buy a replacement bulb with an inbuilt alarm, or you can go with a full on alarm that activates when you shift into reverse. Or the cheapest way is to just jump on the horn as you reverse out. lol

I use a reversing light that works well and fits in with the style of the CF tail light.






I have seen them under several brand names. I cut the mounting bracket off and cut a suitable hole below the rear doors. They look good and throw a lot of light.
