292 Chevy 6 cylinder

Hi guys I have come to realise that my old 202 is very tired & as you know me I like to do things a little different so I thought about a Chevy 292 6 cylinder motor It looks about the same as a 202 Holden so maby they wont notice the difference The queston is has anyone ever tried this Is the chev much longer & deeper & being a chev maby a torbo 700 od gearbox will bolt streight up Anyway just a thought please give me your thoughts maby I could just sneak this swap through Cheers Reid

hey resto, with your background anything you touch will work. go the chev  but is it as economical ? and are parts easily obtained ? dunno, just thinking out loud

I throught about going down the same lane as you with the Chev inline 6, when I seen one on Trade Me over here. It looked so close to the Holden 202 I was thinking the same put 202 on the tapper cover and the guys at the WOF station wouldn't know the differance, but parts were hard to get, so decided to rebuild and work the 202 in my Camper.

Looks very similar, but wouldn't the powers that be work out what it is from the engine number?

Think that maybe a late model 202 would be easier.

Well iv been doing a lot off google surfing [ its pissing down outside ] & found heaps about the chevy inline 6 Seems as the 292 is a truck motor but was used in a lot if cars & utes & had that much tourke it would pull a house off it's foundations but it is about 2inches taller than the next one down which is a 250 cu in so I recon it would go in without any mods to the engine cover In standard form it makes about 150 hp & over 250 ft pounds off tourke which is heaps more than a 202 & with a good manifold & exaust & a bit off head porting they really wake up I think a 250 with a turbo 700 would be lighter than a v8 & go equally as good & would look stock Now the only prob is finding one  They are very popular in the states so parts wouldnt be a problem Being a chevy bolt paturn a torbo 700 would bolt streight up & with all that torque it could pull a 3.08 diff no problem that would make it 1800 rpm per 100 kph good milage This motor in those heavy LWB campers would be great Doo a google search off the 250 chevy & get your mind blown Cheers Reid
