makes me shake my head
« on: April 25, 2011, 11:32:21 PM »
 >:( You know what urks me ? Well i am currently doing some work on a old vn commodore that i picked up for a bargain $100.00 licenced and on gas. So there are a few jobs needing done on it of course. One is replacing the starter motor with a better one. So i am underneath the old girl and i start undoing stuff to get access to the part when i start to notice a few things wrong. :-\ The flywheel cover should have 6 small bolts holding that on but there are only 2, The exhaust pipe should have a clamp over one of the joins , but no thats missing. All of the bell housing bolts are loose and connecting rods that should have a split pin in , have crappy bits of wire instead.!!!WTF.  The previous owner told me that the gearbox (auto) was replaced about 12 months ago. I dont know who did the work ,but how can you miss these small little details.? Granted none of these items would of led to any major problems but it just makes me more inclined than ever to do most of the repair work on my own cars. Ah thats better... ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D Rant over :D

i know what ya mean, i took my beetle in for rwc mid last year to get her back on the road, pretty much the only time i take cars to mechanics is for rwc when i transfer reg or re reg after time off road. anyway gearbox shit itself sometime ago so out with motor and box, out of 4 bolts that hold the motor onto the box, 2 were completely missing including the one that holds the starter on (which should never come loose on its own coz its locks into a groove) and the other 2 loose, reverse light wires disconnected, a set of brand new leads were on the motor, and one fell apart in my hand when i disconnected it, there was a screw down the middle holding it together, plus a couple other small things that werent quite right. mechanics like this f***n piss me off! what they think ill bring the car back to fix problems, why cant they just do their job properly! they give whole trade a bad name. what if i left out a fews studs and lintels here and there when building a house so i can get the maintenance on it when shit breaks, you just cant do that, where has pride in your work gone, hardly exists anymore. f*** them!

sorry folks had to get that out of my system.
have a nice day
alex
