rossie, its not just a case of dipping the item into a chrome bath, they have to have 3 layers, I think one is nickle.

cheap as chips has a special on their $2.00 silver spray paint??  .. ok ..i,ll go away now

first the old plating is stripped then the metal is polished - this is where the money is - better the polish better the job as any blemish shows in the chrome then the plating starts

Skip' your idea of chrome paint is not such a silly idea now I'm not talking about the rattle can stuff there is a new form of paint and when applied looks almost like the real deal  most people can't tell the diffrence
