Mocking Up Engine
« on: December 29, 2009, 09:01:20 AM »
Hey Everyone, Can someone tell me where I can buy or hire one of these fibreglass or plastic engine/gearbox, for mocking up the engine bay and front end. My donor motor is : 1993 VP Commodore 3.8 V6 motor and 4 speed auto. As soon as the silly season is finished I will be starting my transplant. Any help would be appreciated.
Regards
             George.............. ;D :D

Just go and buy a stuffed one from a wrecker. I got an engine and trans for $200 and should get a bit of that back when I offload it at the scrap dealers when I'm finished.

Hey guys, I thought about getting a dead motor from wreckers, but being in a wheelchair it is still a bit heavy to move around, and because I will probably use it on a few more projects, it wont go to waste. So to have something in plastic or fibreglass I can just throw it on the top shelve in my workshop till the next project. I watch a lot of these yank hot rod shows and see them being used all the time, aust custom world really need to catch up, hot rodding is takeing off again and people want the latest gear and people to do customising. oh well  :-\ ::)

they do a chev and ford V8 in plastic and fibreglass, can also get them as chilly bins (esky for the ozzie folks)

It's good for a basic mock up but they aren't stable (solid) enough to mount a complete exhaust, mount dizzy etc if you need to check for clearances. It will hold a manifold and carb. mate had one, he ended up trowing it away and using block and heads (real)
There are so many people out there who will tell you that you can't. What you've got to do is turn around and say "watch me"
