just in case someone knows stuff about autos??

just in case someone knows stuff about autos??

tranz working sweet for a few weeks, then started giving me greif, sortof a bit tempermental, where it would not change gears until i got to 4,000 revs in 1st, second 3,500 3rd, 3,200 by that stage im doing like 110kms!

i could get it to work at first by putting more fluid in it, now that doesnt work??

now i pulled the old filter out put in a new one, tranz started working again for a day, maybe 20kms, then back to not changing properly,

here is a post off old holden

Hi all,
I have a HQ Monaro with 307 engine and turbo 700 tranny. I took it for a spin a couple of days ago just up and down the freeway, one bit of hard acceleration and when I was a block from home I found I'm stuck in first gear. Transmission fluid is OK, can't find anything that's fallen off/come loose but I'm open to clues please. Won't change up using the shifter manually either. Park, reverse, neutral are OK, D gets first.

Car had been sitting idle for over a month hence the drive on the freeway, reco'd box should be good?

Any ideas??
Thanks, Rick.

this could be a couple of
Submitted by a Holden Fan on Fri, 05/06/2009 - 01:58.

this could be a couple of things. either your inhibitor switch i faulty or stuffed. or something wrong with your valve body. probably stuck valve or broken wire. i have built many of these boxes. they are called a 4L60E gearbox.

I had a problem with a Commodore.A switch was sticking inside the auto and the gearbox went into a fail safe mode meaning that it gives you a forwood and a reverse gear so you can still move it.

Gidday ben

Don't know if this will help but I had a similar problem with my th400 trans in my panelvan. Mine stuck in low gear and wouldn't change up. took it to the trans shop where they pulled it down and found that a circlip that retains the servo piston had broke dropping the piston and in the process gouging the housing and requiring me to replace the trans casting. hey quoted my $2500 to rebiuld the trans once i get them another trans body. As I was low on funds I went to the wreckers and bought another trans for $400 and put it in. It was supposed to be a good trans that came out of the wreckers old drag car. The problem I then had with that trans was that it would rev out a long time and quite high revs before changing up, then it would cruise along ok. All good except when slowing down to take a corner it would change down too far to first and rev its tit off when you applied the gas again.
back to the trans shop again for advice, turns out this trans had been shift kitted to skip 2nd all together hence the prob, good for racing but no good for street. Went back to the wreckers and swapped for another trans out of a holden and still going today.

Don't know if this is of any help, just thought I'd share in case any is of use to you.

As you have a th700 trans there is a electric solenoid in these trans's that locks up the tourque converter for overdrive, and I've heard that if these are not hooked up right then it can stuff your trans if you drive them.

Suggest you try ringing a trans shop to get some advice, at least that should be free, coz its very expensive to get a trans rebuilt, or it is here in NZ.

Cheers Jeff
Just customize it!
