Does anyone have advice on how to remove the filter that sits inside the fuel tank on the fuel supply line? Mine has tons of crap in it, rust, spiders, water.... It may be a particulate filter? The tank is used for diesel.
Thanks for any help

Hi there folks,
I replaced my pinion seal a few months back, recently noticed a leak, took it to a mechanic friend who said I had the the seal in backwards, he put it in the other way round, a week later pretty much all of underneath the van is covered in gear oil. I had a look and half the seal is destroyed, oil coming from seal, before it was coming from the housing. So, this time, I have a new seal and a new bearing and will be using some sealant to doubly make sure. But! which way round does the seal go? Pictures follow, various website forums say different things, I asked a few mechanics, majority answer is lip and gaitor - (metal band) go towards the diff - which is different to what mechanic friend reckons. Anybody know for certain??
Thankyou for any help

Thanks for replies. I took the clutch setup into a clutch place, turns out the pressure plate was the incorrect one and reassuringly the new one bolts up more precisely to the flywheel, so with a new release bearing, Fingers crossed!

Hi there, more a driveline than beddie question, but Ive always gottten a great response here.
Any help is very appreciated.
Nissan LD28 Engine, gearbox probably nissan - NCMA - LM. Originally cable operated clutch, whirring highish pitched noise unless put foot down on clutch (possible release bearing?) from when I bought van a year ago, gearbox had just been changed from auto to manual, not many miles done on this setup. Symptoms of clutch slip - engine increasing but no extra movement especially up hills. Also gearbox changes terrible - prob due to homemade linkages - gear stick moves around wider than a bus.
Changed cable operated clutch to hydraulic. Worked great, still not driven many miles though, also had timing done. After timing high pitched noise gone! More clutch slip. Took gear box n clutch out, rear main seal leaking release bearing very noisy and unusual wear on pressure plate - scoring on the splines? Clutch plate ok.
So... is it, pressure plate not tightened up enough? Too much pressure with new hydraulic clutch or some other problem?
Thanks for any help

Hey thanks for your replies.
The red metal? was sealant, Im just learning...
Ive attached pics, still no clearer as to what it is, but, it looks like steel to steel - worm and crown wheel? and what to you think of the sponge and strange nut thing at the bottom? Is this a good thing? Now, for anyone else who thinks they may have crushed their crush sleeve, the race bearing at the front of the dif does come out, mine did very easily, now Im trying to figure out how to remove the sleeve, small space.
Can anyone identify this diff?
Thankyou

Hi there
Im trying to identify my diff. I haven't taken off the cover and mention internal numbers but the cover is 12 bolt, its a fairly plain less circle more oval shape and quite plain. The pinion nut needs a 1 1/4 socket (32mm) I took out the pinion seal as it was leaking, and found red metal (brass? or copper?) pieces maybe 2mm in size (not filings), no noise in in yet, but it must be coming. Can anyone explain what the red metal is, its been suggested it is black copper, specifically the washers? Or maybe pieces of spider gears?
Until I figure out what diff it is I cant get a new seal, or the crush sleeve I think I crushed (advice on this would be awesome too.)
I'm wondering if the metal pieces are related to a change from auto 3spd to manual 5 spd (not done by me, but by the guy I bought it off)
Your help would be appreciated
