Campers / Re: Our Bedford Dolphin camper does Bay to Birdwood again
« on: February 02, 2015, 11:23:05 PM »
We've just spent a lovely 8 days taking scenic backroads and culminating in taking part in the 2013 Bay to Birdwood Classic. We got the bug two years ago when attending the previous Bay to Birdwood Classic in the camper before I undertook a big restoration.

A pic of the Beddy is on the ABC website here, and another good pic at the start is this one by Awesome Photography.

The trip also led to some fine-tuning of the cooling system, which is documented here.

Happy Bedford camping!

Neil

PS; feel free to look at the many photos and links to the before and during restoration phases of this Bedford camper here.

Gday Neil,
Lovely Camper…did you get it registered as a club van ? i.e. are you getting cheap rego ? if so whats it cost per year and ho easy is it to get the van sorted with the vintage/vetrans car club etc?

cheers

Ian

Saw this one in Victoria in the trading post too

http://www.tradingpost.com.au/Caravans/Caravans-/CAMPERVAN-MOTORHOME-BEDFORD-V6/Hampton-Park/VIC/AdNumber=TP005587862

Not sure if it will fetch the $22k asking price though.

I guess it's like beauty in the eye of the beholder.

Cheers

I've emailed the contact for VOCA QLD Branch and hopefully will get a response
Including confirmation  of membership fees, events, and benifits including Club Rego
Or SIV (Special Interest Vehicle) as it is referred to in QLD

More information for QLD vehicle owners can be found here  8)

For Sale / Re: Bedford cab Chassis for sale

I could be interested in the  Supra 5 speed with red motor bell housing as I've currently got a 4 speed mucncie Aussie box attached to a stock red six 202 and I'd like to get out on the hiway at more than 80kmp/h @ 2600 rpm and screaming its tits off  :o

Is it the W58 and do you know what the gear ratios are? Do you have any pics etc

Does it have the clutch kit or any other fittings to make it easy for the conversion?

What are you realistically wanting for it ? ( I'm up in Brissy so I'd have to arrange pick up via courier or something) you can PM me if you like

Cheers

Hey fellas ... I know it's been a while but I saw a DVD that featured the Vauxhall Car Club of Australia
Including some 1976 CF Bedford campers and so I went looking on line for more info and found this
From a web site that said the Club has branches  in every state except Tassie which was annexed under Victoria AND membership qualifies for CLUB REGO !!!! :P

Check it out...maybe that could be the solution some of us are looking for to keep our hobbies affordable for those only needing the occasional weekend trip ( up to 90 days use in some states)

http://carclubs.shannons.com.au/vauxhallvic

VOCA was formed as a one make group within the Veteren, Vintage & Classic club of Wangaratta in 1974, due to promotion activities by Ian Ward. Simultaneously, the Vauxhall Car Club was formed in Melbourne. VOCA was established as a seperate club in Jan 1977 then 2 months later the Vauxhall Car Club amalgamated with VOCA. VOCA now has active branches in all states except Tasmania(which is annexed to Victoria) and has 750 memberships (many of these are family memberships) throughtout Australia and overseas.VOCA offers monthly meetings, national newsletter & access to club permit registration.VOCA has an active, well stocked national spares depo.library(from which copies of manuals may be obtained) with material covering most models and regalia sales.

Driveline / Re: Waking up the holden 6.
« on: November 19, 2013, 07:07:15 PM »
Hi Guys...Ive been away overseas for 7 weeks so good to be back...

anyway I saw this thread and copied the following comment from our old mate Rothu
check this very insightful guide to understand what is involved to build a high performance holden six engine: http://oldjohnno.id.au/toc.html
As he says:
"Why - Or Why Not - A Holden Six

I'll be blunt. If performance is the primary consideration and you don't have to use a particular engine to comply with rules then there are much better choices than the old Holden. Modern engines from Nissan or Toyota for example will out perform the old Aussie six by a massive margin - you won't even be in the race. Another older engine with a fair bit more potential - mainly due to it's bigger displacement - is the old Hemi six. All of these engines will outperform the Holden and almost certainly cost less on a horsepower per dollar basis. Building Holden sixes with outputs of around 250hp and up can get very expensive very quickly. Unless you really need or want to run the six then something like an LSX, a 2JZ or an RBDET will make more power for less money. If however, you don't need to make a million horsepower, or you'll be competing against similar engines, or perhaps you want to build up a cool old-school street car then the Holden six might do the job nicely. Of course, some of us just have a soft spot for the little sixes and enjoy the challenges of making them perform. Just don't kid yourself that you're going to show these young blokes with their turboed 2JZs a thing or two with the old 202 - you'll only embarass yourself."

It depends on a LOT of factors to get a holden six to even remotely come close to a V8 in performance, and still, by the time you did all that, it would've been cheaper and simply easier to put a V8 in!

I've reached my conclusions that the VK EFI head (even the whole black 3.3 EFI engine, with starfire conrods and a mildly sporty camshaft) is the best choice for immediate performance enhancement. Mine is getting shaved down for greater compression, which you could also do to your 202 head, and only costs about $50. Check to see if it has hardened valve seats and if not, consider getting them put in. Well worth it, especially for running on lpg.

hope its of interest for ya all.

cheers

Ian
