G'day
Anybody having problems with their wiring should read the article in next months Popular Mechanics called Chasing Voltage Drops on page 121. It has some good information.
If you want to read it as an ebook you can download from:

Ha! ;)
my van has a voltage drop somewhere in the starter wiring.
If there's anything on it wouldn't start.
Brake lights - voltage drops to 10.8 volts - wouldn't start
Brake lights and thermo fans - voltage drops to 9.8 volts - wouldn't start
Brake lights, thermo fan and lights - voltage drops to 9.0 volts - wouldn't start
sometimes just having a hot engine and there wasn't enough juice to trip the solenoid.
So i put a relay on the starter and it's f%$@ing great now ;D
