Title: HQ Discs and stubs
Post by: ausdog on April 12, 2009, 06:42:36 AM
Gday All

Now I know this has been tried and I guess I am missing something but I just fitted HQ stubs and rotors to my CF   a bolt on mod the only drama being the steering arm taper is upside down,  now I am thinking of getting it reamed to suitso that all bolts on and works.   Next I will swap the master cylinder but leave the booster in place.   I have already fitted a HQ diff and mags so the stud patterns are the same.

So what arent I seeing here?   it so far hasnt been a hard swap  am I missing something because I want it to work?

Regards
Ausdog

YOU HAVE TO GRIND OUT A SPACE FOR THE STEERING KNUCKLE TO FIT. Sorry my shift lock was on. I should say you have to grind out a bit so the calliper fits around the steering knuckle thingy

When you say you bolted on HQ stubs do you mean the entire stub axle that fits between the upper and lower control arms ,if so this will be a problem as they are about 40 mm shorter (in height) than the bedford stub axle this will limit the upper and lower control arm travel, and bottom out sooner in both directions (up and down) Not sure but I think it will also affect the Caster angle when you are turning corners etc

Cheers

Ok I realize now that the height difference between the upper and lower control arms is a bit.    HMMM might still give it a run and see how it goes I have disc mounts now and all I have to do is to get the steering arm reamed to suit the beddie one.    May not be the answer but got to try something.

hmmm ..... standard hq stubs bolted straight on? I would recommend that you stay well clear of expensive cars when you are road testing coz somethings gonna give   :o

hey ausdog been down this road before, ??? have just done disc break conversion on my bedy, cross drilled and ventilated disc's , dba golds with pbr calipers,  holden stub axels are a lot weaker than the bedy, inside bearing is exactly the same but outer bearing is nearly half the size, i stayed with the bedford outer bearing and had the rotor machined to fit, a lot stonger especially if your wanting to upsize your motor later on, there are caliper mounting kits out there to make it a lot easier to fit, i no the holden stubs may be a little easier to set up? but i think you will have issues later down the track  hope this helps cheers stevo 8)

yeah bro, sweet as, Easter was busy for me too, went up to Shepparton Thursday nite to spend time with the wifes family then back to Melbourne Saturday nite then off to the Nats on Sunday and had a real good day, today I managed to put a diff under the campa and get the tow van mobile enough to park it out of the garage so its ready for more work depending on the weather. If I had the time to strip and detail the rebuild on the tow van I would but the boss is eager to get away with the caravan in tow. so its find it ... grind it and bind it to make it fit, slap on some paint and forget about it then away we go hopefully by July now ..... take care bro glad to hear your still finding time to hunt, closest I been lately is squishing scorpions so they don't climb into my shoes (ouch!)   ;D
