Hi guys and gals,
Not being mechanically minded i was hoping for some advice. My beddie has the original 173 which i would like to keep and i have a highway diff. I am currently running a 3 speed auto but she revs quite high sitting on 100k's - i really need an extra gear. Has anyone overcome this issue? keeping in mind that i want to keep her auto and not go the manual route. Idaelly i would like to be able to slot a 4 speed auto up behind her but i dont know if thats possible.
Any help greatly appreciated.
cheers

mezzmo, it can be done.
do a search of t700 in the forum... lots there to inspire you!

turbo 700 has i third overdrive, meaning you will lose heaps of your horsepower particularly in overdrive at 100k plus, you say you have highway gears but state no ratio, with 179, 6 cylinder you ideally need 2.92 or 3.08 ratio with a 3 speed auto to have revs about 2600 at 100k depending on tire height.

some time ago i fitted a T700 behind a 202, using CRS adaptor kit, it works perfectly fine, but you will loose some fuel economy with the T700, its a much bigger box compared to a trimatic.....
you also need to electronically apply the overdrive (it locks the torque converter clutch hydraulicly once the solenoid is applied).... the way i did it was with a vacuum switch as well as re-wiring inside the box so it would only lock the converter in 4th on the stick, and also would un lock when you gave it enough accelerator.....
it worked fairly well but it also meant you needed to drop back to 3rd anything below about 60-70kms to disengage it, so it wasn't perfect.
i believe there are kits for that side of it but i was too stingy to get one :P
