hey all
lost indicators......
there is power to indicator stalk( horn works..HB..LB..dipper)
but no power at indicator wires
there is power at flasher unit and hazard flasher....
any ideas...? where to look
much appreciated
-
Do your hazards work ?
-
No
-
sound like flasher unit
-
Power at flasher... Swapped w another spare...
No difference..
-
Do the indicator lights come on n stay on if you join the 2 wires that connect to the flasher unit?
Your spare flasher unit might be shot as well?

I had a similar problem turned out to be a poor connection in the plug where the wiring harness passed through the firewall on the drivers side up near the top of the inner guard.
I had a multimeter and had 12 V at the indicator light but still would not work the resistance in the connector allowed the voltage to register at nil current but once a bulb tried to illuminate the resistance in the connector prevented sufficient current to pass.
Simple solution was to disconnect the plug and clean/brighten up the pins on the connector and all good
Cheers

thnx Joe ...will try that...
what colour was the wire thru the fire wall?
-
if you have a 12v bulb you can test at the flasher, just put 1 wire from bulb to flasher out and other from bulb other lug to earth and it should flash if flasher works ok
-
it could also be the indicator switch on the steering column..
-
Knowing how the "logic" of the indicators/hazard lights work, please don't think this stupid...... is the hazard switch making good contacts... this little blighter has many contacts within it, connecting the indicators when off and hazards when on.
-
true that rumax.. i had one play up on me once and replaced it.
-
My hazards don't work, but from memory, the earth wire from the hazard switch has to contact with metal on the dash or the indicators won't function.
Photo of broken contacts on my last indicator switch.
-
thanks all
indicator switch is 2 months old...land rover mk1 rewired....(is what rob at bedford manor is logan sells too)
no broken wires....all else on stalk works n operates..
im still chasing it...will let ya know..when i find the indicators again lol
-
Hobbit, that earth wire is so the globe in the switch flashes!
-
Okay....It's crucial to the turn signal circuit though.
-
Wire was in the middle connector top right hand corner light blue colour but I gave them all a bit of a clean as most had signs of corrosion
-
The contacts in the indicator/ hi low beam, could be dirty, ive had to clean mine on a few occassions, a small piecee of wet and dry paper will clean them up. Not saying it is the problem but it can't hurt. Could unplug indicator stalk, a multi metre and check that you have a full circuit, when indicator is on. No full circut has to be in the indicator stalk.
-
I have tried 4 spare indicator stalks... All components operational on each stalk
But no indicators working on any stalk
-
you may need to look at the printed circuit at rear of instrument cluster, remove cowl and with a mirror check circuit is intact,
-
Id just bypass everything and make your own wiring
That way you can fix it and know your own circuit
-
Its possibly been suggested but have a look at the indicator fuse. Make sure you have power going in and out. Fuse may look alright could be a bad contact so if you have no power coming from fuse it ain't going to work.....
-
I had the same thought, but there is power to the flasher unit.
I rewired mine from scratch, so as Marty suggested, I know what goes where and have had no major issues...
Just don't ask me for a wiring diagram... :) :) :)
-
Not my initial thought, but my better half suggestion. Have you checked both of the dash indicator globes, if a globe is blown usually flashes faster, but possibilty that both dash globes are blown, very unusual but not impossible. Are we all asuming that the indicators aren't working because no indication from dash.??????????
Just another possibility.

have you checked the earth at the bulbs?? on guards etc..
