Title: help - wheel and tyres
Post by: KT on June 12, 2015, 06:19:34 PM
Hi BUGAS, can i ask for some help please ...
MY '77 CF 250 is unrego'd in WA and hopefully will get approval and certs for the mods already done. Its got a 9" LSD and HQ discs with 14 x 8's P235 x 60 R14's all round.

My question is ... the rear wheel even with 5mm spacers sits nicely under the guards but the front protrude by 15mm, with the pending inspection should i put a set of 14x7 on the front or use std commodore rims and tyres all round to get over the pits ?? any other suggestions ??

Thanks,

Kevin.

14 x 7 will fit but you need to run skinny tyres, 205 is max I think to keep under the guards with discs

Hi Busy, I hope its that easy, the rules seem to differ from the east coast to the west coast with mods and certs etc.part of the documents i need to submit for approval ask's Q's like what is the original wheel /tyre size and what is the modified size going to be.

the rules in WA are as follows you find the tyre size on the tyre placard on the vehicle and you are permitted to go 1.5 times the largest size for commercials and 1.3 times on passenger vehicles you are allowed to go to one inch negative offset on the wheels IE: 8 inch rim can have a 3 inch backspace .the track is measured at the centre of the tyre .I have approval for 12 x 18 with 5 inch back space for my SWB   hope that helps   cheers merlin

Vanpyre,
I got a spare set of std VX rims and tyres which I'll use for the pits. How do the inspectors go for the interior ? mines completely guttered.. no carpets, walls, etc and its got Range rover seats on a std base that's got welded angle iron to one side to accommodate the extra width of the seat base.

Merlin,Thanks for the info ... it all helps.

Cheers.

Kevin.

Nah your not mate , I'll remove them prior to certs/reg etc. to keep the track closer to original and tyres inside the guards ,I'll probably run 8x14 rear and 7x14 front ...  any issues in doing this ??

Are you guys allowed to run adapters ?
Spacers are flat with holes for original studs and can have has new studs in them, adapters are the same but they have a centre ring which holds the wheels if for example a few studs snap off

We are allowed adapters here, up to an inch (25mm)

Not too sure about the adaptors, someone with more experience /knowledge could answer that.
I run a 5mm universal aluminium spacers, with multi holes for different stud patterns between the axle and the inside of the wheel to widen the overall rear track.

Busy, I'm trying to locate a  complete working heater assembly for a 1977 CF 250 SWB, can you help ?

I'm not sure about the spacers, they'll probably call for finite element analysis on the loads put together by some expensive propeller head  - I do know that they are  pedantic when it comes to the wheel track, especially the front, from memory they give you 50mm over the original and that's it , no more questions.not negotiable.
Good luck with it.

We had it argued here about the adapters. If the adapters center is a snug fit on the mag it's actually stronger than original

Sorry KT, don't know of any off hand. Postage from NZ to OZ for complete heater would be a bit though

No worries Busy ... Just trying to get something for the reg as a demister is required. I am still a fair way off though so I'll make something up. Thanks anyway.
