Title: former 70s kiwi van rescued
Post by: greasey monkey on September 27, 2014, 07:20:58 PM
Evening All, another joyous day for us with another van added to the collection.
this time its a van that was built and appeared on the kiwi show circuit for awhile unfinished n then ended up being passed around before being rescued from the scrap yard n had has now made its way into my hands. it was known as Flaming pink in its day and was built by a guy by the name of Andy Philpott. it has an all steel body kit and one hell of a front kit, the side door has been gull-winged quite poorly over the years n needs to be redone. my white cf facelift van is going to donate its rb30 n trans plus dash etc to it as the its body is in pretty bad condition - has been pumped full of bog by a previous owners. so it will a quick swap over to it get up and running, hopefully will have it drivable by Xmas all going to plan

Not my cup of tea, but can appreciate the work gone into it, the story I know is one of the owners who had the van moved to OZ, and wanted to take it with him, but it didn't happen, back then the van was all light Blue, have a photo here some where..

Sounds like she has a bit of history. Good on you for saving her Scott.

Bas, was it blue and gold with murals? or am I thinking of another one? If it's the one I'm thinking about I have a photo of it somewhere, it was on a trailer at a van show backs in the dark ages (late 80's or early 90's), think the show was either in Henderson or Te atatu

David, when I remember seeing it was all blue, much the same colour as the first photo, but it had a shine to it.. :D

another one owned/built by Andy, Jeff knows a bit more of the history of the one ive brought, it was built in timaru by Andy for Mike Jones? n driven for some time then ended up in invercargill for a period of time, came back to christchurch  while it was still pink n sold of in 2012/3 for its engine n trans - a 350TPI chev n from there ended up in wreckers

I prefer the blue version without all the crap around the windscreen. The rake on the blue version is a nice look.

am thinking along the lines of trimming that down back to where it should be, as i dont think i'll be able to get it road legal with the lower visor/stone gaurd coming up that high. Plus the whole bonnet and Visor has been hinged in the front A pillar so that it can open up with plenty of clearance. Might been legal back then when there weren't so many rules but now days i don't think it will be

Good plan Scott, the light blue van has a much better look in my opinion. The window cover looks to much like something out of Mad Max or Death Race.

I recon it would look wicked black with heaps of airbrushed skulls n demons.
Blue or Pink just dosent seem to do it.

i do like the idea of something airbrushed onto it. one friend suggest that due to how it looks very Darth Vader-ish which gave way to the idea that it should get some Star Wars themed airbrushed artwork, which also gave way to the idea to that  some stunning bird should be chained up in the back dressed up in the Princess Leia slave outfit at shows........ ;) ;) ;) ;)

Hi Scott,

With the new Mad Max movie 'FURY ROAD' being released next year, I reckon Gordon's suggestion
for a Road Warrior theme is a boss idea. Timely too.

i agree it would suit a Road Warrior/Mad Max theme especially with the way it looks, was thinking some sort of mural on the back not sure if i'd theme it with a few of the MFP car's chasing the knight rider; the Interceptor chasing the toecutter & gang or the Interceptor/the Landau with some of the other of the Humungus's gangs cars in a chase scene or something along those lines
