Hi guys and gals,  I am new to the whole bedford thing after just purchasing a camper. I have recently purchased a disc brake front end to fit to my camper and have been reading through allot of posts.
however I am yet to find a disc brake conversion using falcon rotors with hq calipers (is this a common conversion) I went to the wreckers to confirm all of the parts. Also there are some shims on the outer bearing where the nut holds the bearing in which I believe to be a relatively normal practice (as per the rod shop kit)

Any advice/help/knowledge would be greatly appreciated

Dave, welcome to the wonderful world of Bedfords.

As far as I know the HQ and Falcon rotors are the same with the only difference being in the stud pattern. So you can use either the HQ or the Falcon rotor depending on what stud pattern you want to run. There are even un-drilled rotors that you can buy to run Bedford stud pattern if you so wish.

If you are planning to use new rotors you will need to have the outer bearing cup machined to take a standard Bedford outer bearing and then use a thicker washer (or the shims that you refer to). The Bedford and HQ inner bearings are a match so no change there.

Hopefully your recently purchased front end came complete with grease caps as once you have had the rotor machined the standard HQ grease cap is too loose.

Welcome Dave.

I would be interested if anyone knows of any blank rotors that are wide enough to take a Bedford stud pattern, like Gordon just said.
The blank HQ rotors I bought are too narrow.

Hi Hobbit, there was a fellow here in Auckland who was stocking the blanks a good few years back when I first did my disk brake conversion. I think that they were originally intended for trailer setups using HQ stub axles. Unfortunately I no longer have his contact details.

For those interested I've attached a few pics of my current front brake setup. I'm using a hat style Ford XA rotor (DBA106S) on a fabricated hub. My dropped stub axles allow me to run standard inner and outer HQ wheel bearings and a standard HQ grease cap. I'm still running HQ calipers but these bolt straight up on the stub axle without the need for an adapter plate.

Hey mate, from memory when I had a look at Dano's front end with the falcon rotors and calipers, the offset is different to the Holden versions, so you need falcon calipers to suit the falcon rotors (not hard to do)

we called hopper stoppers in Vic and got a set of BA disc brakes and everything else for ours...well worth it.
there was one thing ray had to do and i think that was grind out the hub a tiny bit for it to fit the stub axel...
will get Ray to confirm that  :)
went to get link for pictures  in gallery but forgot the gallery is downand not available atm
we now use XR6/8 rims which are 16 om front and 17 on the back...great for highway driving, especially with 5 speed gearbox  ;)
