Title: Strange clutch
Post by: Postie Bob on August 17, 2014, 09:07:13 PM
Before I bung in my new gearbox I thought I`d check out the clutch .  It wasn`t slipping but the pedal had to be just about on the floor to disengage  it .   Turns out the PO had put a clutch plate & pressure plate in that`s different to the original ..   The old wear marks on the flywheel are 30mm wide and the newer clutch plate facing is 42mm wide ( and the matching pressure plate) .   I thought the new clutch could be from a V8 model but they have 6 springs I think whereas mine still has 4 ..  Any clues as to what this clutch is from?   Could this be causing my pedal issue?
Also..... at the back of my 4speed there is a spring held in by a small bolt ( to position the reverse selector ) .  My bolt is missing so could someone tell me what length bolt I need for there?
Any assist much appreciated.
Cheers, Bob.

that clutch is from a holden one tonner with straight red six, have always put them in my long wheel bases. now excedy list it (part number gmk-6053) for the bedfords, i believe that they have lasted longer for me.

never had any issues with these clutches, i would check your adjustments. do you have the pull type clutch fork?

might be good idea to give the flywheel a machine if the old wear marks are bad.

not too sure what the bolt you talking about is but will go have a look at my beddy and see if can work it out (might be hard as its in parts for putting in the new 5 speed)

good idea to check the clutch peddle where it attaches to the cable for wear, and the firewall for cracks or flexing. also i have put a large diameter washer for the cable to mount on the firewall to distribute the pressure and prevent damage, should not flex the firewall if the clutch is adjusted right but most i have seen have been abused.

usally a combination of wear and tear causes the adjustments to get close to maxing out. i welded and reshaped the peddle hole and the hook on the clutch fork, and put that washer in and it got my adjustment back in the middle.

check the cable too.

i forgot that i gave the 4 speed away with a beddy just sold, so can not check the bolt. are you missing the reverse light switch that mounts on that bolt too?

hey there postie bob ,we changed our clutch cable and belhousing to the later model wb ute
panelvan ,vb vc vh vk commodore pull type system ,its a far better system and takes alot less
effort to opperate which puts less stress on the firewall ,the only problem is we had to get a
new clutch cable made but it was well worth the effort and only cost $95 any way just a thought
that may help you    cheers ray

Thanks for solving my `mystery`  :) .
There was no switch or bolt with the box when I got it.  Will just stick a bolt in it for now .
Looks like the commodore cable set-up is the way to go . `Cos I have a limited `Beddy Budget` it`ll have to wait a while though.
My priority at the moment is to get the dear `ol girl back on the road and do a bit of camping ( itchy feet  ;D ) .
Cheers, Bob.
