does anyone have the Mk2 disc brake conversion, or more relevantly :D
does anyone have the Mk2 disc brake conversion for sale?
I guess those mk2s are pretty rare (i don't think i've ever seen one)
I would be interested in buying a set or talking to someone who has them.
I understand that they are only came out with 5 stud rotors, is true?
Do they use the same stub axle, or is it a different beast?
-
I think only private imports came to Oz but NZ got them?? If any Kiwis have an old one kicking about I wouldn't mind getting here to Melbourne.
-
more mk2s cf2 than cf1s over here . more than you can shake a stick at . still sell for goood prices too considering there aint any spares produced anymore for them. the cf2 came with 5 stud up to the 250 range then 6 stud there after which was the 350 , 2.5 ton 250 , and 3.5 ton 350 lwb. i drive past a cf2 panel van,a cf2 box van and a cf2 pick up ( ute) every morning on the way to work , wedged firmley in a field.
-
Well Stumpy you had better get a set of 5 and 6 stud rotors, calipers and stubs over to here.
PM me with a cost.

Hmmmmmm, make that two sets, but i just have to buy a LWB, find a highway diff, and then i'll let you know if i want 5 or 6 stud.
today is sunday, ok, i'll let you know by tuesday ;)
Seriously though,
Is it a different stub axle or just an adapter plate mounted on the standard stub axle?
Same booster?
What's this ere 'delay valve" all about? (-half the UK site posts say it's cr@p, the other half say you need it)
looks the part

maybe someone can help me understand.
the six stud 350 range are the dualies right?
did the mark 2 six stud dualies come out with six stud disc rotors on the front?,
I'm finding a few different posts on the UK site that conflict.
I'm still looking for a LWB, i like the dual wheel look, i think brake fade sucks, and so does carrying two spare wheels
so (help me out here stumpy)
can i get bedford six stud disc brakes? anybody know for sure?
-
now i'm back where i started. Pretty sure that there is no such thing as a six stud disc rotor for a bedford van

G'day
A few years ago there was a project V8 CF truck on ebay in Melbourne. He had fitted ventilated discs off a 1984 LWB Transit. I spoke to him about the conversion and he said that his mate had done it to a CFL van as well. I have spoken to another bloke who has done the conversion and used Volvo calipers. Transit and Volvo calipers are 4 spot but the Volvo are a LOT cheaper to service.
Early Transits are the same stud pattern as CFL's
Pre 1984 Transits are solid disc and while useable are not really a performance item.
Post 1984 Transits are a different stud pattern. I found out the hard way by buying a set of rims on ebay and driving to Sydney to pick them up. Waste of time and money.
-
I have CF2/MK2 original disc brakes on my Beddy, they are made by Lockheed. Picked them up in NZ by luck. Hard to find now I imagine, I've seen some for sale in the UK, though postage would be a killer.
-
i have hq rotors on mine, but the bloke i bought it off said he did that to change the stud pattern to holden. i am sure i have seen the original hub assembly in my shop o sh1t somewhere but do you think i can find it...
wait, i got it. thanks to the modify button i am back. if anyone thinks a part number will help i can clean it up and try to read the chicken scratchings on here...

Just does my head in, ???, but simpler after a while
DBA makes vented and slotted vented rotors for transits
all the single wheel diff transits from 73 to 86 can fit dba 127
(125 series,V21, V22, V24, V33 and V51 single rear wheel).
all the dual wheel diff transits from 73 to 86 can fit dba 126
(125 series,V21, V22, V24, V33 and V51 dual rear wheel).
The only difference is that the 127 is 13.2mm thick and the 126 is 22.6mm thick
So it must be post '86 that changes stud pattern? and for a beddy i want the 126 right?
Cant find the PCD listed, but there aren't any other transits....... (famous last words)
I'll have to buy one, and take it to the wreckers to check the studs (43 degrees today, 43 degrees tomorrow, and a chilly 35 on saturday). unless someone can confirm compatability
Then have it machined to suit bearings, fit bedford studs to have matching wheel nuts, source adaptor plate( -hmmmmmm), and buy volve calipers (there's only one model right? ;D)
Sounds too easy
Has anybody done this? save me the grief
-
Hahahahahahahhahahahahhahahahahahaha >:(
They are all 5 stud, NO LISTINGS for 6 stud transit rotors,
Might have to do a visual inspection, not being familiar with transits and all
-
G'day
Transits have at least 4 different stud patterns that I have seen.
Single wheel Transits had a large 5 stud, small 5 stud the same as Falcon, or 6 stud the same as the dual wheel Transit.
I am not a Transit expert by any means but as far as I know Transit discs were:
Single wheel 6 stud solid disc
Single wheel small 5 stud ventilated disc
Dual wheel 6 stud solid disc
Dual wheel 6 stud ventilated disc
These are the ones I have seen and all had Falcon 6 cylinders motors in them.
V4 motor ones were drum brake front ends.

Chris

:D if it was easy every LWB would have em'
DBA have listings for , apparently , 12 different models but only two rotors,
i think i'll quietly give up on the idea of a dualie with disc brakes and one spare tire
-
....don't give in to 'em, worzal....don't let them buggers beat ya.....( he say's, sneaking back to his F350 stubs and hubs bent)
-
single wheels.. single wheels.. so easy.. so easy..
-
....Hey Ben,if singles are so easy, why you sayin' it twice ? and any way reality IS duality
-
Dual are good for big load carrieing, plus if u get a rear flat there,s still 1 tyre on back taking the load wont swerve as bad ,
but i got singles on back of my LWB a few owners ago put the 350 chev, turbo 400 and chev 12bolt diff in it. holden disks holden studpattern front n back

Marty,
Do you have disc brakes FRONT and BACK on your LWB?
Jock

Do you have disc brakes FRONT and BACK on your LWB?
just front jock.. rear is chev drums!! massive they are!! need 15" rims 14"'s wont fit over the drums..
um because they are so easy!!!!!!!
grab a holden salsbury 10 bolt limited slip disk brake.. (got ofered one the other day for $240)
get some deep dish rims and big fats..
modify the mounting points on the diff.
throw on the wheels and off you go bobs ya uncle!!!
i picked up some dragway 15 x 10 which would be perfect for that for 200 off ebay.. then tyres maybe 4 or 500..
so you get out of it for about a grand.. and you could sell your old diff for about 200..
and you end up with wiked wheels!!!!
other way you still end up with not so good looking wheels..

Fact: Borg Warner diffs are stronger than any Banjo or Salsbury diff.
I will be going for disk brakes all round on my LWB.
FRONT
• 1 x Bedford stub axle - complete disc brake front end.
REAR
• 1 x SWB Diff with 3.45 modified Borg Warner Centre and Holden 5 stud pattern.
• 1 x set of old Holden rear disc brakes w/. backing plates etc
The plan is to graft the Holden brakes onto the Bedford diff.
Nothing is impossible.

Borg Warner diffs are pretty strong but no the strongest. Ford 9" Banjo is the top of the pile GM's 12 bolt Salsbury is also ahead of the BW. The VL Turbo or VN V8 centers are damm tough and are a heap cheaper than the other 2 options.
With the rear brakes see if the Commodore caliper and mounts will line up with a HQ-WB rear disc as the calipers from the commodores are more reliable.
