Hi,

Thought I'd best introduce myself my name is Robert, I work as a Supervisor in local Government.I Currently own a CF Light Truck Beddy.

I swapped a 12 months old shed which I hadn't put up for the Beddy so no money changed hands. It was my wife's idea as it used to be a furniture removal van some time ago.We were living in the Midwest and had decided to move back to Perth so she thought rather than paying to hire a Furniture van and paying deposits etc ( We had been or felt we had been ripped off before hiring a Furniture van) we would just get our own truck/Van to move with.
Problem is we still own it,my wife didn't realise that when I was 18 I had a job as a spare parts delivery person driving guess what yes a bedford CF small truck. So have always liked the little Beddy's  ;)

Not sure that the Van back will be a perminate thing, I think once we have moved into our own place I'll be removing the van back off the truck.
I prefer the tray look plus it's got to be better on the fuel with out the van body on it. :-\

Welcome to our site Robert.

May I ask how you found us?
Title: Re: New Introductions
Post by: autocat21 on February 15, 2009, 07:15:56 PM
Yes, I was surfing the net trying to find a club that was into Bedfords expecting that I wouldn't find one here in Australia but after much searching was pleasantly suprised.
A mate of mine is into the early Transit vans and he said he hadn't found a site here in australia but said he found an English site.So I had expected a similar result. :)

Thanks mate.

Maybe we should look at inviting people with other types of vans too? Transits etc?

Post by: ben on February 15, 2009, 09:45:52 PM
hey  autocat21 yeh welcome to buga..

i sold a transit not long ago. to my suprise it sold quite easily. i didnt ask much for it and it had a 9 inch diff in it. i bought it for the diff but it was a full floating axels so i couldnt use it anyway..

but definatly not a fan of transit vans.. especially since when i drove it for a few days i got more looks than in my bedford! maybe thats cause it was soo ugly!!!

cheers
ben

Yes I must admit that I'm not really a lover of transits myself.
Although My mate Alan has sent me an interesting picture of an English transit light truck.Instead of a tray fitted, it has a Giant pepsi can fitted where the tray should be.  :D

Hi Bedford team riders, my name is Gus from Tasmania and ive got a 1976 CF 350 light truck. it s great.
im a chef and looking at turning her into a food vending venture machine with a classic edge of sorts!   with a holden blue v8, with 200 litre lpg which im not sure is legit, and heaps of hz holden mods... she still needs work. not registered but getting close to roadworthy, been working on it for half a year and got her up and running this week!

i stumbled accross this site acciidently while on bedford.co.uk there was a link somewhere. and since then ive spent half of today searching forums for tweaks and tips,

i know jack about mechanics, but thanks to my bedford i have already learned how to rewire a new ignition switch, other minor electrics, replaced a needle and seat in a carb (that was dumping fuel) and fixed a network of numerous other issues, and now thanks to BUGA im not stopping now!   on  the road soon.

Thanks, im going to need heaps of that advice at many stages from the ground up.  so many questions...

this is the only picture so far, day one with the bedford, where it was found in a shallow grave down a dirt track - deep south in Tas.

it had been resting for a handfull of years, and took so many attempts to fire,   dunno how but she's alive and now another theres bedford back on the road...
much work to be done.. and more photos  :)

Yea sweet, have posted some in the gallery...
Still thinkin up some form of art for the ol girl s ext and what to do with interior, is all kitted out with fridge etc but still bare ambo blue so some redecorating would be in order....

Just put some new tyres on, hell what a diff, poor ol thing was all over the place lol
Title: Re: New Introductions
Post by: Bas NZ on April 25, 2009, 06:25:57 PM
Scimitar, mine was a ex Ambo, but a few body mod's and you can't tell, took a lot of sweet and tears, tears because the wife would not let me spent all day and night working on it. :D
Title: Re: New Introductions
Post by: scimitar79 on April 25, 2009, 08:59:55 PM
I like that, you'll have full head room now lol
I have a project boat too so sadly the Ambo will be staying in it's existing format for the time being, no wife so thats a bonus ha ha
You still running the 202 and auto?
Mine runs well but me thinks the auto, specifically the O/D needs attention sometime when on the open road the O/D can't decide wether to engage or not and hunts. Seems ok once warm etc...
Title: Re: New Introductions
Post by: Bas NZ on April 26, 2009, 08:26:17 PM
Runs fully work 202, 3 speed overdrive Trimatic, 3.5 diff, disconnect the auto overdive and hook it up to a switch, you will hit 80 km hit the switch and problem fixed. A relay is needed inline for this, might pay to get the pro's to do this.
Title: Re: New Introductions
Post by: scimitar79 on April 26, 2009, 09:43:42 PM
Sweet
yea thought that would be the shiz, I'll work on it some time but not a priority at mo...
The ol bests pretty much is as it was when in serivice so not sure what state of tune it's in etc, as long as she gets wof's and I can pack an camp when I want alls good for now.
once I have the boat up and running I can then focus on getting it sorted to tow for some lake side holidays lol
Cheers

oohh you blokes got all the good camping spots, beddies, boats and lakeside camping, now your talking ! I not gonna be able to do that anymore cause the missus got this freakin block of flats she calls a caravan shes hoping to be travelling in the next coupla months but with no toys coz the freakin block of flats takes up all the room on the tow ball  :P

Hey Eddy, you still have the Beddie as a tow wagon, a large roof rack and all the toys can sit up on top, as for the boat you might have to go for a blow up one. ;D

Hi everyone,

I'm Anthony and I live in Albury/Wodonga.
I have had an affection for bedfords for years. Now I am finally going to do something about it. My current Toy is a MX-5 which I refer to as my mistress. So I guess I am looking for a new mistress.

I am a little undecided on a SWB or a LWB,  but a V8 is the long term plan. So I am  on the lookout for a Bedford with no major rust.

If you have one, let me know.

Buy the way this is a great website, I stumbled across it when I Googled "bedford vans".

Post by: silverado on May 24, 2009, 06:55:56 PM
hey I have one of those blow up GF some year back, it got a leak, so i took it back to the shop and told the guy in the shop.
I said "look every time I blow her up she go's down on me" The guy got all excited and offed to buy her back off me for a 100 bucks more than i paid for her.
So that was the end of that relationship.

Then i got one of those giant pink panthers that were all the rage to drive around with, but i couldnt deal with the fur balls, so that had to go too.

BTW Declan welcome to the forum eh.

hey all.

I'm Ben and I live in Greenbank, south of Brisbane. I've owned a Bedford Cf van for 5 years now. Runs ok and I drive it to work every day so if you live nearby theres a good chance you've seen it running around.

This pic is from pretty much when I first bought it. It's not quite as tidy as it was then. Needs a new paint job. I'll post a more recent pic soon.

Adj used to own it he lived in miranda wich is in sydeny just up the road from cronulla its still straight just a bit of moth only the roof is a real prob but more then fixable 307 66 belair rear end hq discs and calipers on standard stub axels runing ford wheel bearings and a turbo 375 wich is just a turbo 400 with a long extension housing and the tail sharft is about 3' long was all engineered but some dope nameley me let the rego go a year and two days about 5 years ago so it all has to be done again .
We have a bloke up the road who had one with a 302 windsor and all xb runig gear called the goast kangaroo he went with the ford disks but had his stubbs turnd down insted of the bigger bearings in the disks like we did so every few years his stubs would bend and he wouild have to get them re done

Welcome Colin
We have a 1967 Bedford VAL twin steer, she is our full time home, we live all over New Zealand, but we winter in the far north around Kerikeri.
Our bus is 11 meters long and she is really comfy and fully self contained.

G'day, my name is Owen, I first bought my Beddy 4yrs ago just before I started my apprentiship as an Electrician, I soon relised that apprentiships don't pay that well and I needed a reliable car, stat, if I was too keep my job.

So all my hard earned money (and loan) went into a VX commondoore wagon.  However I never could bring myself to get rid of my Beddie, a 1977 SWB poptop. I had so many good plans for her and it was a real shame to see her sittin down the backyard seemingly wasting away.
I first joined BUGA 4 yrs ago when I started fixing my bedford, but after some time of Commondore driving and no money forgot my username... I think it was (scrott4444).
However what I do remember is the friendlyness and helpfulness of all the members on the old forum, which seems to be continuing with the faster new one

I look forward to sharing some pics and stories with you guys as my Beddy progresses and is finally back on the road

My profile pic is of about the last time that I had the Bedford running.  I drove it to school on a tempory rego for Muckup Day (our last day of school) with a few mates, dressed as Ghost Busters with flashing lights on the roof and the theme music screaming through computer speakers hooked up too my inverter!
I have so many good memories of her and can’t wait to get her back on the road

Cheers Owen

Hi My Name is cyril davey i was born at 19/09/1943. I have an 1983 halom ambulans and have converted it to an campervan.
I took the 2.3 petrol engine out of the van and put a 2.3 opel diesel engine in the van.

This is the first time that I have been in to the site and will put some photos on when I find how to do it.

Hi, my name is Joe.

I have just discovered this site which is a shame cause I may well have used it alot over the years.
I have had 2 swb bedfords, over the years.. the first was a right trooper and while the rear panels may have fallen off somewhere between the desert and here .. the mechanics of it were perfect ..
But.. I fell in love with a clapped out ol thing in the back alleys of sydney and spent far too much money rebuilding it .. from engine rebuilt to the its pretty new paint job .. and then took it straight up past broken hill ... through camerons corner and back along the oodnadatta track to warm it up .. bit silly in hindsight .. but that road just out from camerons corner was bloody awesome!! I never had so much fun on a sandy track!

I lived and loved my beddies for 8yrs total ..

But then I needed to go further .. so sold the Submarine Mq2 (so name cause the Mq1 leaked like a MF - especially through the top of the passenger door  .. rather fantastic when you finally have a nice lady in the wagon and the rain lands right in her pretty lap!)
and headed O/s for a few years ..

But here I am ready to turn back full cycle .. and I have my eye on a very pretty bedford again ..

But .. I have a big question .. in all my years .. I never once heard of a bedford that ran on diesel.. but I am thinking it may be a better way to go as gas looks like it is going to be as high as petrol very soon ..

Does anyone know of diesel conversions for bedfords? or can recommend where to head?

Would be much appreciated ..

Thanks for making a group .. nice to know where to turn for advice

Bedfords rock my world!!

joe.

Hold the 'Ctrl' key down on your keyboard and then move the wheel on the top of your mouse backwards and forwards and that should enlarge and reduce the size of the text in your browser window and make it easier to see.

Hi Ben, yep phil and kathy, they were the 2 I thought of as well. I think most of the beddy's around are daily drivers, mainly because I dont think we have an official bedford club, or do we ? I offen check the list of clubs in my hotrod mags, and still have'nt seen one. I think any big van shows we have are on the coat tails of panelvan or hotrod shows.  Pitty, but I guess most beddy owners like myself, were around in the 60s - 70s when the craze was alive, and now we are married, kids, and in some cases grand kids, or for some divorced and sending all their money to the exs. Oh well thats life. Good to to see you up and well again ben.
George..........

hi everyone,
my name is jason and my father and i have a 1976 CF bedford thats fully customised. this is the first bedford we ever bought but not the last. we have had this one for and 8 years mabby more and has been a very slow build that will probably never stop. we also had a green 1971 bedford which was to be mine and i was working on it while i was in school but there was just too much rust and work to be done for me to handle. we sold it on and from that same met a few people and finaly got onto the site. also another reason i really wanted to join was a resault of the melbourne get together that we went too and saw what a great group of people you all were and just had to be apart of it. for those we met on the cruse we are the limping black beddy with only 2 gears lol.

have been thinking about ideas 4 mine (that are affordable)
currently fitting recessed zb fairlane tail lights. as I like the lights but i think they stick out too far.
Followed a chick in a audi 4wd to the gym the other day and told her she had a sexy bum, but then burst her bubble when i told her i was talking about her tail lights, would have looked friggin awesome on a beddie but $$$$ not even worth thinking about

Yeah we do get a great buzz and the fact that we can't stop at a servo without people asking to see the interior or to take a photo. the trans is all sorted as of mid night last night i got another turbo 700 out of a vn 5 liter and now she runs like a champion. its a pritty good combo we have a 253 slightly worked (so far) backed by a turbo 700 with custom heavy duty tailshaft and 9 inch diff. i will get some more pics asap including what it looked like once apon a time.

and yes the inside is fully decked out custom interior and seats i will get some pics of that asap too

Post by: Jason 253 CF on March 26, 2010, 09:01:30 PM
LOL the most expenceive bit is the box. Don't let who ever does the conversion surply that bit. Other than that it's not that bad. All u need is an adaptor plate, make your own crossmember, use a vn or vp v6 kick down cable instead of the v8 one, change the speedo switch to suit ur gauge, and custom tail shaft. It cost us about 2200 with everything done for us and engineered cross member but could have been cheaper if we got the box because it is not easy to find one cheap or find one period. We just replaced one in the van yesterday and I paid 660 for the box with a warrenty and swapt it over my self. But the most common price I got was 1000 for the box. As for who would do it the guy that did our one was at the chevy place on mountain hwy but has closed down now but I guess any mechanic would figure it out.

G'day all,

I got bitten by the van bug firstly when i was 10yrs old and the A-Team first appeared on the telly, then of course there was scooby doo and the Mystery Van....
I'm now 35 and still haven't bought my van yet...... as the bug for a van was re-bitten with a few kite surfers that i know having one...

So, having found this site while endlessly googling at different dream vans, I think i have found a new home.
I'm looking for a cheap SWB (preferably) van , as a project to start.
Cheap, so that the dept of finiance doesn't jump on my back..too hard.

Look forward to catching up sometime in person and happy vanning everyone.....

Welcome to the Bedheads  :) .
Be careful not to let the department of finance know how much you will be spending to bring the Beddie up to the standard you will want. The trouble is that standard keeps moving higher.
Think of your worst estimate, and then tripple it.
Nice to have you with us.

GDa all you fellow Beddy blokes and gals, YEP, finally got my first Beddy, 1977 CF250 swb. Prity much original as far as mechs go, dash has been modified using a Custom Cab fibro dash panel. The 173 runs well with the 3 speed manual (bit niosey). Am looking forward to doing her up, not going overboard but have a few ideas (some may offend the loyal) but for now I am enjoying the ride.
I am looking for a complete steering/ignition assembly (with keys) to bring that part back to original.
Anyway, look forward to chattn with all you mad people out there (dont panic, my middle name is MAD).

H my names is nick from Mclaren Vale in s.a. , about 40 ks south of Adelaide, one of the prime wine growing areas in s.a.Ive been into beddies for about 5 years, had about 4 of them, always looking for a better one . My latest and greatest is a 1978 cf with 253 trimatic, the only legal way to get a v8 regd in sa now. It has had a total of 50k put into it now, from the previous owner, and myself, it has a jag xj6 dash with all the gauges, it looks amazing, one peice tailgate, jag taillights, flairs roof spoiler etc and a thousand other mods, with still a few to go. it never stops.Arnt many beddies in adelaide, but know most of them.  Nick

:) Hi, Just bought my first (and probably last  :D) Bedford Its a 70 model cf swb tray truck.
Was looking for a one tonner or hilux but stumbled across her, And just like something about it. Thinking of going for a bit of a hod rod inspired theme  :P .
I Live in Victoria and have a bit of a thing for 60's and earlier cars, and know next to nothing about bedfords. Hope to learn a bit on the site for the upcoming project.

Howdy all! I'm a born an' bred northerner, Liverpool in the UK. As such, bedfords are a good part of my history (you're not a Scouser unless you've had someone open the back of their Bedford and try and sell you somethin from it!), and I moved over here 8 years back, met the wife and 'settled down', apparently

I chose Maicoletta as my handle cos Ive just finished restoring a 1957 Maicoletta 250 scooter, and now I'm on to my next project:

Just bought an 1980 Bedford Camper, in as far as I can tell, pretty good nick, apart from the dodgy paint(brush) job. Runs and rides well, can't wait to get stuck in to the interior, drive, paintjob, cab, diff..... Will be a nice little motor for Me, the wife n the little un, i'm already daydreaming weekends away...

So, please help out where you can, I'm probably gonna come out with some dumbass questions in the near future, but any help would be appreciated.

Cheers all, Al.

hey, only just seen the replies to my intro, too busy ploughing thru the heap of info on the site here!!

I paid 1300 for the old girl, and yes, someone put a fair amount of work in! The interior is in really good nick, and the custom made luggage rack is pretty awesome, apart from not leaving enough gap over the roof- will leave me a bit of repair work from stagnant water...   :(

Oh yeah, and the old fella had the bright idea of painting her... with a coat of dulux and a brush! ???

Ah well, gives me more to do!

Oh, and not been out on whitehorse yet, but diid do a big loop round cheltenham, dandenong, and back to st kilda. Sure, as soon as I've got a full rego, you'll see me everywhere!!

Hi there,

so I'm a massive Bedford fan and i'm currently saving up for my dream Bedford. i have a few question if i may?

Where should i be looking (apart from here) for Bedfords?

I plan to have this car for at least 10-20 years...it's going to be my car for life i figure sure you can spend 20-30 grand every five years on some plastice piece of shit with no character but I'd rather  have a Bedford and put my money there.... Right?

so where do you get parts import them?
what's insurance going to cost me

W ;Dhat I'm asking for is a bit of a financial breakdown so i know what i'm up for....well if you don't mind fellas

Thanks

Adrian

This site rocks with advice, idea's, monetry breakdowns and a fair share of stupidity - all in all a great community. Search what you're looking for and enjoy the ride - you are in very good company my friend as i have discovered first hand.

Hi Folks, Been waiting 30yrs for my CF to turn up and it did, WooHoo !!!

I`m a Coachbuilder from Edinburgh, been in Aus for 12 yrs now with frequent visits home, in fact we (the family) just returned from a Christmas and New Year trip to Scotland and a few nights in London... all a bit hectic...

I did plan to fill my cases with CF parts but was so busy celebrating.... i forgot, lol... also most places were closed for the holidays...

Back to my Van, it`s a 1977 SWB with perfect roof gutters... being a coachbuilder i won`t buy rusty vehicles.... this one is very nearly mint, the van is in primer and has been stripped of all fittings eg handles, lights, windows etc. there are two or three small rust patches to cut out and weld but nothing in the grand scheme of things... all handles, lights, grille, dash etc is with the vehicle and original. i dont want to restore the van as i do that every day at work and i don`t want to do a custom build, i just want a running, solid reliable van, i will do a few mods but nothing too rad.

i only just got Him.... yes it`s a He and never a "Beddy" (sorry) always just a CF.... he was dropped off in the middle of Dec and i really want to get things started soon.....

things i need to get him going :  Engine.... set up for Holden motor so it looks like i`ll go for a 186/202 with 5spd Celica box.... not had a look yet but are they out there?
Body.... full rubber kit, seen the threads but any up to date ones ? i think Spectrum Rubber may be the go ?
weld and prep areas, organise paint and give it a hit.... easy...

Wheels.... He came with a set of HQ Racing Mags with Brigestone rubber in good nick 225/15/60 i think..

well thats a bit of a run down on what i have to do any help in finding Motor and box would be great but hopefully i can find something locally... and cheap... will keep yo up to date with what goes on with Vincent, hopefully soon....

                                         Cheers All, Scottish Mark :-)

Thanks,

trust me this will be "to a budget", lol and a minimal one at that....  i know i`ll have to shell out a "few" grand on parts but He`ll be rough and ready...
the body is pretty straight and i`ll make sure it`s well finished but it`ll still be a bit of a beater....

We`ll see, lol.

good to know there is a bit of support out there anyway,

i have to finish my 65cc race engined moped first, lol.

good thing about that is a new cylinder head is only $30...

Hi all, Well it has been a dream for a long long time but I finally own my first Bedford, it has a 253 red motor on the original front end so I am looking to sort the front end out. I have been told jaguar is what the rodders use ?? I have also been told to use h ktg front end with hq-z stubs n rotors for disc, any help on this would be great , thanks, Mark from Morgan S,A.

Hi Mark,
lots of help and advice here.
not sure about the jag thingy.... with a 253, I would expect transport SA would like disc brakes at the front, but you would need to check -  lots of options- HQ and commodore are the most common, guess it comes down to what is available.

I would be more concerned with the rear end...... it is the gearing that really kills the CF.. :(

Good luck and enjoy the journey
Russell

Welcome to Buga  Mark.
Lots of good info, n beddy enthusiasts here.

Yeah i agree with Russell,
HQ J X Z- Commodore disks.

1986 Jag have double piston callipers so they might be heaps better option .
I haven't heard of any cf Bedford's with jag.
But my mate has a bedford 1948 pickup with 1986 jag disks and it will throw u through the windscreen if you stand on the brakes, :)

Cheers marty

If you start mucking around with Jag frontends it will only end up as yard art There is nothing wrong with the standard front end just renew all bushes & ball joints & fit Commodore discs Plenty of info in Forums Is it registered with the V8 If so keep it that way & make the changes slowly

Hello BUGA members,
I've owned my 1977 CF 250 SWB Bedford Van since the early mid 1980's,
the Beddy was my very first vehicle purchase.
It's powered by a Holden 202 Red motor, with Genie extractors, stock carb, 3 Speed auto, Dual Fuel,
14 x 8 CSA Eliminators, HQ Discs, Ford 9" LSD ( it was either 327/350 Chev bound) and High back leather bucket seats.
I've only recently discovered BUGA and have been impressed with the wealth of knowledge and information available on this site by Beddy owners working and completing their own projects.

I look forward to meeting fellow addicts, tapping into that knowledge, and hopefully completing
 my Beddy.

All the best,
Kevin.

Yep nice clean and crisp white. But here is a Q. why would they have one slider and one swinger on the front doors ? what was the logic behind it.

Title: Re: New Introductions
Post by: KT on June 08, 2015, 03:40:41 PM
Hi George,
If my memory serves me correct, in the 70's the Van was originally used as a bread delivery van and I think it made life easier to get in and out of. I've seen different CF's that had the passenger door as a slider and drivers were hinged or both drivers and doors were sliders.

ive noticed there were a lot of them in europe...only way to go for delivery vans ....havnt really seen many in OZ like that ....not may double sliders either!

anyway she looks in great condition!

And yes sadly... once you have been infected with the beddy bug theres no cure...and some buga's get it really bad... one of the many side affects  is collecting many of them....hahaha

looks amazing, well done to you. Mines unrego'd and has had the usual diff, disc brake, seat and LPG conversion, can you give me any info on the Engineer you are using ? I've tried a couple of local ones but found they either don't certify vehicles or don't return calls or emails.
Title: Re: New Introductions
Post by: Bean on June 11, 2015, 06:31:52 PM
KT -Welcome to the world of Chaos,
Having recently tip-toed through the mine field which is DOT Certification there are a whole bunch of things you need to do to make your life easier before going too far down the road.
I bought my van  from Melbourne as it had certificates for all the mods and it was good,or so I thought - WA doesn't recognize any of it so I had to start from scratch
You need to chat to the lads at Welshpool, let them know what your modifications are going to be,You will need to fill in the necessary paperwork for permission and they will then give you the green light on going ahead and doing them,Once they have agreed to it you can do all the mods they've  approved, only then can you have an engineer certify it, I used Dan up in Hillaries who was pretty good and he used to be then head honcho at Welshpool before retiring so he knows his way around the tracks.
Its a nightmare but you need to be in regular contact with the team at Welshpool or you may get to the end of the build and find you have a really expensive  hi tech garden ornament that's not allowed on the road.
Drop me a line if you need any info.
Title: Re: New Introductions
Post by: KT on June 11, 2015, 08:04:44 PM
Bean, Thanks for your post. I'll certainly take your advice and speak to DOT in Welshpool.
only thing is I've slowly been doing the mods over many years.
I'll go to DOT with the pretence of "doing" the mods rather than "done" the mods, fill out the forms and hopefully they will give the green light ... from what I've read on here my mods aren't too outrageous, so hopefully won't be too much of a head ache. Thanks for your help and offer mate, I will certainly drop you a line for more info.

Kt i  cant realy advise you on any of it like  bean has  because ours was licensed and engineered with the 0 inch disk brake front 350 and t350 box so i havent had to go through the crap storm your facing  and knowing a guy in transport who has guided me on things like my gilmer belt  "get a permit from v belt to flat belt 22 bucks " so  have a good ear bashing with bean and see how you go mate if you do want to pop in and have a look at the gobly by all means  gimmi a yell
cheers Ian and good luck
Title: Re: New Introductions
Post by: KT on June 11, 2015, 11:45:36 PM
Thanks Ian, I am happy to take Beans advice, speak DOT and follow protocol.
I feel the same as other BUGA's about their Beddy's, I reckon we all do...though it's hard to explain to non Beddy folk.

Funny thing mate, my Ex (The minister of fun and finance )of several years hated everything about it.. how it drove, how it looked and how much time I spent in the Garage, that is of course until I "volunteered" to help people move their crap....Long story short, I still own the CF.

But now I'm older, bigger, none the wiser, wear glasses and make weird Grand Pa noises every time i sit down or stand up, if it gets too much, I'll probably accept defeat, throw in the towel and sadly move on.

Cheers mate,

Kevin.

Kevin
There are 24 million folk in Australia, half we expect to be woman, that gives you potentially 11 million ladies out there , wipe out half as they may be under age , even though you van is white - by the statistics on the population you can safely assume that  in WA there are at least 1 million eligible ladies waiting for that call.
Now that we have the maths sorted on that one, there are only about 40 Bedfords in Perth in various stages of rebuild / disrepair,
You can find a new lady without too much fuss but a good Bedford is hard to come by  - You have chosen well --Should you require any further sage advise please don't hesitate to contact any of the BUGA members, they have your best interests at heart.
Title: Re: New Introductions
Post by: KT on June 12, 2015, 05:47:06 PM
Bean, I appreciate the math, but for now life seems easier being single ... maybe not easier, lets just say less complicated.
I went to DOT Welshpool, but they only seem to do licenses there now, so I went to Kelmscott and picked up the necessary forms .. one for the mods and the other for the installation of the newish recond 202 and new engine number.
My LPG installation is currently 5yrs out of date ... my first quote was for $500.00, i wasn't sure if they meant Aussie dollars, krona's or otter pelts. Hopefully getting it rego'd wont be too expensive or painful.
I will be in contact with other BUGA members for sure, for now though i just needed some local help with the W.A certs which you have done. so, thanks again. Once rego'd It would be great to meet up with some of the local  members and maybe organise a run up or down the coast. And whats wrong with a white van ?? what colour is yours ?? what colour would you suggest ??  do you know if the gallery up and running??
Title: Re: New Introductions
Post by: Bean on June 13, 2015, 09:41:25 AM
Kt .
If you're looking at wheels for the pits, try and borrow a set of standard Holden rims and tyres all the same size, they don't like fat on the back and thin up front , even if it looks really stupid, they are pedantic about the track width being the same as the original specs, i think they give you 50mm leeway but no more - As for your gas installation, you may care to give Mike Hudson a call at Australian gas Power in Belmont, he did all the mechanical work on my van, just get a firm quote before work commences or it becomes open season on your cheque book.

White vans - On the news every time you hear of someone up to no good around schools its always 'The alleged perpetrator was last seen cruising the area in a white panel van"
I'm not quite at the painting stage yet but it'll be metallic midnight blue  with an orange pinstripe separating the carbon fibre trim from the blue bits with night a surf scene airbrushed on the sides at the back along with the Eagles -Hotel california  album cover on the back door .
There will be whats they call ghost flames from the windscreen back along the doors fading half way down
that's the plan anyway,
When we get that run organized you'll be able to meet her.
Title: Re: New Introductions
Post by: KT on June 13, 2015, 01:56:42 PM
Bean,
I've got a spare set of VT rims and tyres, the plan was to get it rego'd with those on front and rear.
Would you know the original track dimensions and where to measure from ??... I've looked on BUGA but can't see any relevant post. also, any ideas where the engine number is stamped on a 202 ??

I've seen a pic of your van either on BUGA or the net, I recall seeing the Eagles album cover on the rear door.
Your future plans for the colour, stripes and air brush sounds awesome.

Your right about the white van, if I am successful with my rego, in the distant future I may just strip mine back to metal, sus out any rust and repaint in another colour.
Title: Re: New Introductions
Post by: rumax on June 13, 2015, 03:06:08 PM
Engine number is easy. Drivers side on the flat surface just above the engine mount!
Bit of sand paper and chalk always helps......
As for the track.. the brochures give that as 1646...

PS good luck with rego. Every state is different. Mine sailed thru here in SA with just an identity check. And the truck was from Victoria!  ;D ;D ;D
Title: Re: New Introductions
Post by: rumax on June 13, 2015, 03:08:29 PM
And Bean.... If the news reports have a story about a midnight blue van with orange pinstripes behaving badly report, they already have you in jail!
Title: Re: New Introductions
Post by: KT on June 14, 2015, 02:12:00 AM
Rumax,My Cf was modded years ago in WA in the '80s, it was my daily drive, I went to Vic got it rego'd there with no inspection at all, 10yrs later when i returned home to WA i let the reg run out , so now hear i am in this situation...hopefully it wont be too much of a headache. Where's the 1646 track  measured from? ... I'll check the engine number and that's a great tip with the sand paper and chalk.

Thanks for the help mate,
Cheers.

Hey

I'm Paul from Sydney. I bought the Bedford as a project for my new cafe. I will be restoring the van back to original as best I can, and then converting the back into a pull out cafe. You can check out the (basic) website at www.zombiecafe.com.au if you fancy. My plans so far are to remove the pop top, block in the back side windows, get the whole thing sandblasted and rust repaired, etc. Big project so far.

I really wanted the old style van for character and fell in love with the Bedford. Had a few hiccups along the way and Im sure many more to come, but it will all be worth it, and will be great to bring her along to any Bedford meets that may happen, free coffee of course!

I am a complete novice in all things automotive, but I am teaching myself as much as I can along the way, so please bare with me if any of my posts are outright dumb sounding.

Look forward to keeping you up to date with the progress

Paul @ Zombie Cafe

P.s I came across this site through Google

Hello all, my name is Drew and i'm new to this site, i hope i'm posting correctly as i have never done this before :) i have a Bedford CF camper van that i bought out of South Australia. Super happy with it and already done a few road trips. Since buying it i've changed it to an automatic (trimatic attached to a holden red 186 engine), electronic ignition, replaced alternator, shock absorbers and changed to halogen headlights. i've got a few questions but not sure how to start a new thread. Main question i have is, has anyone ever changed the axle and front brakes from a dual wheeler to a normal short wheelbase CF. Cheers, Drew

Just fitted a 9" with Bedford brakes. Like those 70mm shoes. Has the 202 traumatic in it.
Looking to fit a bigger engine, but not sure what. I favor an inline six.
4.1 ford, 4sp auto maybe, but the sump is not positioned well.
Looking forward to learning from somebody that's been down this road before.

Hi, I'm Sarah and I recently bought a 1968 Bedford Comair bus to convert into my home.

I'm just starting the conversion now and after taking up the floor tiles (after they were checked for asbestos), I now need to learn how to and replace about 1.5 x 2m of the plywood floor that was damaged by water and re-seal the windows where the leaks are.

Thanks so much for the add :)

Hi Steve and Paula here. Got tricked into buying a CF2 AmboCamper. This will be good for race meetings and general holiday stuff with the kids. I think it has a 186 but not sure yet, auto with manual O/D. Smallest ever wood burner in the back (CO sensor a must ay!!) Paula is doing the interior decorating while I make the cockpit like a spaceship to keep the kids amused..  2 big solar panels already installed and the slightly too big kitchen has just been removed. Only a single bed currently but we are working on that.

Hi All!!!!
My name is Sam and I'm a fresh Beddy owner.  Our journey has been a little rocky so far but it's starting to look up...

My wife and I flew to Sydney from Brisbane having committed to buying a big yellow LWB over the phone....(we were keen, and didn't want to miss out)
We thought we'd take the previous owner by his word that it was in good condition and that we'd not have any problems driving back to Brissy.....hmmm
Anyway, we bought it and it blew up around the hills of Gosford!!!!! So, we towed her to NRMA motoserve in Gosford and then went straight to the pub.
After swapping the engine for a reco 202 along with radiator etc I flew back down to Gosford a couple of weeks later and drove the Beddy back to Brissy.  It was a pretty stressful drive as the car wasn't handling well and was on the wrong side of 95 degrees.  I stopped in at Taree bunnings and bought a drill, I drilled some holes in the front skirt and moved the number plate lower to get some airflow (thanks to facebook beddy pages).  That made a few degrees difference and meant that I could spend more time looking out through the windscreen instead of the temp gauge constantly.....
We've since redone the suspension front and back and new steering.  So, we finally have QLD plates and are starting to feel like the Beddy is ours to enjoy.
I'm pretty sure the carby needs a mighty clean and the timing needs looking at and of course the usual cooling modifications need to be made.
Our dream is to convert the LWB to a tilt top camper (not even sure if it's possible) and cruise up and down the coast line with our dog.
Just have to cut out rust, beat panels, paint, possibly new highway diff, overhaul the traumatic, convert to camper......you know just small stuff ;)
Happy to be a member of the BUGA community and looking forward to meeting more experienced Beddy owners.
Cheers,
Sam and Carly

Glad you made it home safe.
Lots of advice here and the FB page... most have been bitten by the "beddy bug"
Enjoy the journey!

Hi All,
I go by Wicky548 name is Matthew. I have owned three LWB over the years two V8(253) auto in both. I had another which I did a heap of body moods then gave up and it went to the tip. Just got another LWB at the age of nearly 60. It is a 179 auto but have already picked up a 253 and auto to put into the van. Normal for nearly any Bedford (rust) and yes it has got it. A lot of work ahead for me with this. Disc brake front end Van craft dash and elec sunroof. Dual ass end, don`t know yet if a highway diff has been fitted. It will never be a show van but it will be good(bloody hope so). Great site people and reading all the sites. Matt.

Hiya Guys.
My Name is Tyson, 44 from Adelaide.. I bought two bedford vans yesterday and will be picking them up in a couple of days. Ill take a few pics when i get them here. Theyre in pretty poor condition and its going to take a lot of time and money to bring them back to prime condition. Ive never restored a vehicle before and im going to make quite a few upgrades along the way. Hope to chat with many of you along the way for advice. First stage for me is gutting them then theyre off to the sandblaster. From there they head to the bodyshop for full rust repairs.  its going to be a long journey.

Hi Sam & Carly,
Which part of Brisbane are you from? I am up at Kingaroy. I read about your trip and now exactly what you went threw. I did the same with a V8 tonner. Cost way too much. Anyway have you done anything with the Van? Wicky(Matt).

Hi Wendy,
I am from Kingaroy QLD. I have been talking to Glenn J and Nik. Been buying items from Glenn. I bought a lwb and the van has more rust than I thought. Wicky (Matt).
