My guess would be lexus V8 (several in NZ) but not sure if any in OZ, it can be done but the engines are so wide you loose more than you'd gain. Just a guess.
However an engine I don't think I've ever seen in a Beddy is a Jag V12, or even a pontiac V8

If you`ve got the time & money , you can bung anything in there...
Check this conversion out....
 Merlin V12 Powered 55 Chevy (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SIj2GVfua84#)
Dunno about the fuel consumption though  ;D .

Hi,
my gues would be Toyota Supra 1JZ GTE or 2JZ GTE turbo, with Auto Box. Standard bottom end good for up to 600 hp. Come with aircon, powersteering pump etc.

They are a good choice of motor, I've long thought of buying a second van for such a transplant.. Get an fg intake manifold or a nizpro intake manifold and it will save some effort with the space restrictions, along with netting horsepower advantages over the ba/bf intake manifold

I look forward to seeing some progress from your work

I dont know why the bedford factory didn't make the front panel unbolt able
So motors could be easier to put in and taken out
