Hi all, any advice on converting to a column gear changer (automatic) would be greatly appreciated, cheers

I would think that that would big a pain of a job, are you looking to clear the floor of the gear shift? and why ?
Chris has posted here in the past about using the magna cable operated gear selector, and supposedly you can mount it just about anywhere, you may have to get new cables made up though.

Hey Warren, yes I am trying to clear up abit of space aswell as I just like column changes. Cheers.
PS. I done a search for "magna" but no results?

id be more inclined to get a cable operated shifter and mount it beside the dash or something.. or where ever you want.. like 500 times easier!! i had a van with the shifter mounted between the drivers legs on the floor and it was fantastic!! well i thought anyway.. ill be doing that again some time..

My Magna shift is the manual one to fit up to a Hiace 5 speed.
Ive seen an International truck fitted with an auto and a column shift out of something else. They had a cable custom made to connect it all up. Seemed to work well.
I agree a column shift is much better for autos.

Craig had a Magna shifter set up with cables.
It was a great shifter to use and real good looking to.
I will give him a nudge tonight and see if he has pics.

A mate was moving out of a rental property and wanted a hand so I took my V8 auto CFS van and a car trailer to help him. I backed down his driveway but the van was just too high to fit under the carport so I parked just in front of it. I could not get out the drivers door so I went to get out the side door. As I moved to the back I bumped the B&M shifter out of Park and the van rolled back under the carport with a LOT of noise. Luckily the carport had a bit of flex, but the fence did not and was demolished by the trailer. The van was wedged tight and I had to let the tyres down to get it out.
The carport was a bit bent and had lots of paint on it. The van was scratched but mostly OK. The fence had a bodgey repair done so that you would never know what happened. It passed the Agent inspection and my mate got his bond back.
I reckon column mounted shifters are the go.
Part 2
Another mate had moved into a rental property and then had a tale of sad and woe. His EB Fairmont had a problem when cold and he had to pump the accelerator sometimes to keep it going. His wife got in it one morning to go to work. Just as she was changing into gear she had to pump the accelerator and the throttle stuck open. The car took off at high speed through the fence, across the back yard, and into a tree. The car was a write off with the skid marks in the carport showing the launch speed. My mate could not understand why the fence fell apart so easily. He asked me to bring my trailer around to take the wreck away and then I knew why.
Did I tell him? Of course. I even showed him the paint marks in the carport.

Thanks Pickmeup. What is a Magna shifter anyway? Is it from a Mitsubishi Magna or something? Ive seen a CF which has an entire Estima dash including the column change and steering wheel, was pretty cool cause it was more like driving a car because of the steering wheel being lower and angled.
