Hi all,
I've always been a big fan of the Bedford and have just gotten myself what looks to be a 79 lwb, a red 202 three speed that I want to convert to manual. I'm not too sure what it is and it's got a fair bit that needs fixing. Any suggestions on body repairers eg. welding and such would be appreciated.

Hello Simeon, Welcome to BUGA. :)

Welcome aboard Simeon.
Have a look thru the forum section for ideas & hints etc. Lots of advice there from those who have done it already.
As for welding, I did a TAFE SA course several years ago. Well worth it.
And remember, if you don't post pictures, it didn't happen.
Cheers :)

Thanks guys,
Any idea about how I can find out what I've actually got? It seems like a bit of a hybrid. Its only got the three doors and two seats, the rear looks to have been sealed at some point, but it has a water tank in it too and an extra little door above the rear left wheel with three holes in it. Windows on every panel too which led me to think it was a camper but there's way too many conflicting point about this one ???
And pics will be aplenty soon enough rumax!

Back in their day the bedford was used for all sorts of things, police vans, post office vans, tradesman vans, school bus/van as well as every day vans ... once out of service a lot were made into custom or camper vans or a bit of both.
Photos would tell us more, being the '79 it could be the cross over model (mk2 dash etc in mk1 body), can't quite tell by your avatar if it has round or square front, but the dash and inside front doors are the tell tale signs.
Welcome

Welcome aboard Simeon,
chunky lookin' old girl, dig the column shift!
-
It seems to have been a column shift at some stage but it has a real dodgy auto shifter on the floor between the seats now.

Hi Simeon,
Judging by the mods to the engine cover, you might have a later model (blue or black 3.3) engine. I'm going to have to modify mine to get the carbie and manifold in when I fit my black 3.3.
She's a pretty distinctive unit, gonna be easy to spot you driving around ;)
Cheers

Hi Phil,
It's definitely the red 202, the mods and such are just the previous owners ideas of using what was around to fix or repair. I'll be honest, since leaving his place in Melbourne and having the thing die 10 minutes out I have most definitely had second thoughts.
-
Well I don't reckon you're the first Bedford owner to have had second thoughts.
You're certainly in the right place for any advice you need - lots of experience generously shared.

I think the shock of finding out just how much I had been ripped off and lied to was more of a mess around than anything. There's alot of work to be done on it but like many I'm not in a position to be able to pay someone to just do it all, so I'll be trying to do the bulk of it myself. Luckily I have a very talented sparky mate for the wiring, and a few friends to help with the first job-stripping it back to bare metal to see just how bad the rust is. It's been properly defected by Regency with rust in the firewall and the underside of the front doors but I want to find out where the rest is.
-
Ouch and they say rego is SA is easy! ;D
-
It usually is, but rust in the firewall is just one of those things they wont let pass.
-
bit late for advice now :'( .. but worth remembering.. usually if one books it into lonsdale they are known to be "not as thorough" as regency park by a long shot ... ;)
