Not exactly CF related,,,,but I do own one...and it is about artwork.
I'm moving house (stressful), and came across some old jobbie pics. Sadly, my photo album was
mostly destroyed by recent flooding here, a few months back. AARRGH!!! >:( >:( >:( I salvaged
a few OLD photos,(pre-digital), and thought you might like them. I'll post more in my gallery.
A bit cringe-worthy, but here here goes...........

Hey Hobbit.....That guy on the horse reminds me of the sort of album covers that the 80s metal bands i used to listen to. Molly hatchet or Saxon or samson ect ;D

Hey Hobbit, i recon the artwork is directly linked to beddies, mate custom bedfords back in the 70s and 80s were all artwork and airbrushing, so feel free to post your work anytime you want mate.

Hi Hobbit, did you use single or double action? I learnt with single and then changed to double, but even now I still like my single airbrushes, all mine are badger 200 and 150 models, there was 3 of us doing work in the 70s and early 80s, in Victoria, fantastic times, whish they would come around again. I tend not to look at my old work, it makes me cringe too, now I mainly do rc helicopters and boats, lot more fiddly, but good fun to do, when I finely do the bedi, it will be 28 years since the last van, time goes too fast these days

G'day Graham, I knew we would end up having a chat. Yeah, dual-action for sure...although
I have a Paasche single action, syphon fed gun, with bigger bottles for spraying larger areas.
Majority of my work was done with an Olympos 100, dual-action, gravity feed airbrush. I was
given a newer gun with better needle adjustment, but haven't done much with it yet.
It's good to hear from another artist, we could possibly swap a few tips. I'd do my van, except
there's too many destructive mongrels out there these days. Some real flames like on the
'Overhaulin' Chev would be nice.
Anyone looking for a decent cheap airbrush - check this out.

Yes I can relate to the possible destruction of artwork, parking my old show van was always a problem, there is always some dh out there with nothing better to do, and once its been scratched down to the metal you just about have to start again, I only ever saw it happen once to a very well known van called Jade, made me sick and even more paranoid about where I left my van. when I painted a van it was always hard to try to stay within the customers budget, as you know once you get started time and money don't come into it, for me it was all about the end result, I always went over the time I had allowed, I quoted one customer $150 for a bonnet once that ended up taking 4 days to do, just got right into it, still one of the best murals I've done, needles to say the customer ended up mounting it to his wall instead of his van, very happy chappie
what paints are you using?, I still use the old A type acrylic, but have started using some of the createx paints with good results, and more user friendly, the A type is a pain in summer

Hi Graham,
I did all of my murals WAY TOO CHEAP. Because I loved doing this work so much, I used to put
many more hours into the job, at no extra charge.
Of course, in the old days Acrylic Lacquer was IT. Retarder thinners was essential in the summer.
Tints work well too. You can use Acrylic over 2k base-coat and finish with a 2k clear. The new
airbrush paints are great, fantastic metallic colours too.

I can't do murals but I paint my models with airbrush, used to use lots of lacquer but nowadays use (enamel) nail polishes, way better selection of colours and easier to store, can get them at the $2 shop

I posted some photos of my work into My Gallery a couple of weeks ago.
These pics are of a van I did for my friend Wayne's car audio business.
He and another mate were the instigators of The A9X Torana Club of Australia. Although administration has now changed hands, the logo I designed for them is albeit the same.
Another of my designs was the very first Life Education Centre van, at ACT TAFE in 1976.
Who knew they would develope that giraffe into the well known "Healthy Harold" of today.

I do miss seeing all the airbrush work I hope it makes a big comeback
