Hi there
Im trying to identify my diff. I haven't taken off the cover and mention internal numbers but the cover is 12 bolt, its a fairly plain less circle more oval shape and quite plain. The pinion nut needs a
1 1/4 socket (32mm)
I took out the pinion seal as it was leaking, and found red metal (brass? or copper?) pieces maybe 2mm in size (not filings), no noise in in yet, but it must be coming. Can anyone explain what the red metal is, its been suggested it is black copper, specifically the washers? Or maybe pieces of spider gears?
Until I figure out what diff it is I cant get a new seal, or the crush sleeve I think I crushed (advice on this would be awesome too.)
I'm wondering if the metal pieces are related to a change from auto 3spd to manual 5 spd (not done by me, but by the guy I bought it off)
Your help would be appreciated

If it looks like mine, chev 12 bolt. If not, try google images. That's how I worked out what mine is.....

Hey thanks for your replies.
The red metal? was sealant, Im just learning...
Ive attached pics, still no clearer as to what it is,
but, it looks like steel to steel - worm and crown wheel?
and what to you think of the sponge and strange nut thing at the bottom? Is this a good
thing?
Now, for anyone else who thinks they may have crushed their crush sleeve, the race bearing at the front of the dif does come out, mine did very easily, now Im trying to figure out how to remove the sleeve, small space.
Can anyone identify this diff?
Thankyou

Last 2 photos don't look to good :-\

The sponge is like a metal trap, the waste gets trapped like a filter. the nut thing at the bottom should be magnetic
The red metal sounds like a bush, as they can be squished out and chewed up
from the picture you posted of the cover it looks like a CF diff
