Title: It`s alive!!!
Post by: Postie Bob on August 18, 2013, 05:32:53 PM
Took my `ol  bedmobile out for it`s maiden voyage and am pleased as punch  ;D .
A tad noisy in first `n` second but will hunt up a gearbox to rebuild and transplant it later.
I`m wondering if unleaded fuel is ok for her . The motor ( 186 ) was a replacement Repco about 6-7 years ago . Would they have still used the lead fuel valve seats back then?  Would it be wise to add some sort of additive?
Now the mechanics have been sorted out ( roughly ) ,  it`s time to work on the campers innards .
I want to insulate the walls somewhat . What would be a ` not so costly ` way to go ?.  It had carpet glued directly to the walls but I would like to stick either foam underlay or thin styrene sheeting or something on the walls first then upholstery material over that. What do you people do  ???
I thought about spraying sheets of bubble-wrap and gluing that on . Would look kinda funky!!!
Cheers Bob

Hey Posty bob,
Cant kill the 186! ;D
I would definitely use an additive though. Highest octane fuel(BP ultimate), & one of the moreys type drip systems are the best way to go, does all the hard work for you...with the insulation, I have posted a link to the type of stuff I have used in the past, your local foam place will also have self adhesive versions in different thicknesses,
have fun.

That all depends on whether or not the head was done to suit ULP or LPG. I'm doing up a 186 at the moment and have had hardened seats and valves put in for LPG which will be good for ULP as well.

If it hasn't been done you can use an additive, there are plenty of systems on the market. Or you can add a small amount of 2 stroke oil to the fuel for lubrication, (blows a little smoke) or, you can do nothing. Eventually a valve will burn out and then you can have the head done right. Thats of course assuming it hasn't already been done.

It all good fun.

G'day Bob, glad to hear the Bedmobile is on the road.  :)

Although the mechanic that built my 186 used stainless steel valve seats, he recommended that it would still benefit by using a valve saver fluid....it certainly can't hurt.

Clark Rubber will have the right sort of foam you want.
