hey i'm in the process of doing up my beddy, just done the disk brakes.......
anywayzhave been tossing up different ideas for my running gear.i wanna keep my 202,but have a low ratio diff,so wanted a 5 speed overdrive but the whole supra conversion kit sounds expensive.anyway i was wondering if there was a good reason why no-one talkings about a vk or vl 5speed that s'pose to bolt straight on and have cable clutch so easy in theory to put in.is it because there hard to find,or is there a big no no i dont know about.i want a v8 diff to finish it off.does it sound like a plan?

The VK 5 speed is a Phillipino "Torquemaster" not very strong! VL expensive to repair being a "Nissan" sourced box. Try Borg Warner T5, they can be picked up from $120 off ebay. You will need an adaptor or new bell housing. Holden and Ford T5's are different, the VN has a longer input shaft. Both Dellow's and Castlemaine Rod Shop have adaptors - about $300 Or look for a Celica box $150 - $300

i have a vk 5 speed off a 6 cyl... never been game to put it behind any of my engines as i have seen too many let go. you can give it a go if you like but the supra doesnt end up all that expensive if you can wait and buy parts 2nd hand.
my kit cost $200 out of the trading post, and i got the dellow bell housing, clutch and pressure plate (which you can buy anywhere) and a slave cylinder which looks similar but have never compared to a hr slave off the 3 speed non sync box then you just need a new yoke on the tail shaft and moove the mount.
i am sure i read on the forum a conversion has just been done, ben probably knows..
just dont rule it out, you dont need the whole kit, make it yourself e.g bolts and bits can be sourced elsewhere.
cheers ,
Ben
