I am going to put air con in my truck but there doesn't seem to be much room for the condenser in front of radiator'
I have fitted a 202 injected and it has 3 row pullies on water pump and crank
has any one pics or description of air fitted?
-
you could allways mpount it under the floor with a thermo fan on it thats how we do it rods with limited space ;)
-
Are you using all 3 rows on the pulley? I'm guessing one is for alternator and waterpump as standard, and another for aircon.
Swapping back to a double row pulley may well give you more room to move the radiator back toward the motor and put a condenser infront.
Are you running mechanical or electrical fans? Electrical fans are generally thinner than mechanical fans, there are a variety of options available..

yes I was thinking this was best option
will be using all the pulleys, water pump, air con, alternator, power steer, hydraulic pump
I was think of using ford au electric fans but maybe tight so may mount them off to each side and fit ducting
just another thing to look forward to, lots of other bits to work on
-
Ahh, I wasn't taking into account the power steering.
Just be aware, the AU fans are GREAT fans, much better than the VX fans I am using now which are also great. The only downside to the AU fans is that they draw alot of current. The EF/EL falcon fans are similarly good to the AU/BA fans, but draw less current. If you're using these fans on a remote condenser they will be on alot of the time, so you may need a larger alternator.
Just a thought

Hey ethyl, can you post pics of your truck and it's air-con system. Over the years, there has been a lot of questions and debate about the best type and design of system to install in a beddy.

Ok, folks the journey has begun, here is the three Vintage Air (Evaporators) Conditioning units that are pretty much the most popular and used, the first is the MINI, second the SUPER COOLER,and the third the Magnum (left to right and front to back in the photos) Price point varies so much (as I have found out) $489.00 USD to $1056.00 AU ...that really, the best thing to do is chase the links and find your local dealer and get your own quotes, not to mention so much to choose from its NOT funny, and has taken me literally two days chasing part numbers and prices.... good luck! I'll post more over the coming days and venture... ;) Dano

this first photo is the mini, as you can see, it is proberbly going to be the easiest to fit (after the factory unit has been removed) The new vent ducts look like they will connect to the factory demister ventswith minimal fuss but yet to be confirmed.(mental note to self-measure the diameter of fact. ducts) as I will be using the 63mm/ 2.5" duct hosing....i will show fitting of all components as i go but it will be over the next few weeks(hopefully) as I'm still finishing the firewall/engine cover etc.Excuse the white foam underneath as it was just a prop.
-
This one is the Super Cooler..... 24" in length I think, quite a long unit considering you can get square-ish units, but again remember these babies do it all, and this unit has a dedicated demister system (look at the Evaporator photos closely-you can see the two vent outlets)
Now this and the Magnum MIGHT fit a standard 6 cyl Beddie with a standard engine cover,I couldn't tell you that, as I've lost about 100-140mm to the engine cover (V8) BUT aswe all know there's more than plenty to be gained from the good ol kick panel on the left footwell (if your game enough)... as the photo's will tell.
-
Note that I have turned the unit around "backwards" (there is no real front or back) but a badge, that's all, it works well this way for the Beddies :
1) it puts all the vents towards the front of the vehicle and closer to the firewall / windscreen/ demister vents/ "dash tunnel",
2)moves the fan to the front left corner of the van, Note on the assembled units (online sellers photo's + google images etc) there is a wiring /hose shroud that "squares" off the unit, I'm led to believe "you" fit this when you get your unit (a couple of screws-I will let you know) but again check the body profile photos you can see the fan is more central rather than in the corner, thus allowing to follow the profile of the firewall and cutting into the kick panel... 8)
-
The Magnum unit- far right was i believe designed for the pick ups, guessing early F100 etc..... given they're so huge in the US, this unit didn't seem to work that well with the V8 as the vent outlets sit hard up against the engine cover or (turned around) the kick panel :-\
here's some more pics of the fitting D LEMMA...
