hi all, am having to replace the bush in the extension housing of the old traumatic (trimatic).... sigh!! cant ever come to melbourne without having to work on "ol futile" can this be done without taking the housing extention off the trans... (mate reckons im lazy... ;D ), an if so any tips , pitfalls , etc etc to be wary of ??? .... many thanks for your time with this enquiry... cheers skippy ;)

Mate if you are talking about the seal that your tailshaft goes though then there a peice of piss to do.
If you have the new seal just pop out the tailshaft tap a flat screwdriver between the edge of the housing and the old seal
then flick it out. Tap in the new seal lightly with a hammer put the tailshaft back in and bob's ya uncle.
Go wipe ya hands on the cooks curtains and go cruzin.

no am ta,lking about the "BUSH" that is behind the seal in the extention housing, that the yoke shaft fits into supposedly snuggishly, mine is like waving a sausage around the opera house, the seal , i cocurr, is a piece of the proverbial.... tis the "bush" that i wish to replace.. does it pry out easily, or is there a shatfight involved ???? cheers skip

Ya mate is probably right about you being lazy, but that is a whole other issue.
Seal easy. Bush not so.
The extension housing has to come off. You will need the correct fitting (a bit of pipe or steel) and press the bush out and the new one in. Of course you can use a big hammer instead of the press but the press is the correct way to do it.
It is worth noting that the bush can have a LOT of movement in it before it is really stuffed. If it is vibrating or chopping out the seal then is has to go. E series Falcons have an enormous amount of movement in the yoke without grief. So unless you have vibrations and/or leaks I wouldn't be getting too excited. And after all, apparently, according to you mate, you are lazy!

yep.. lazys the way ;D ;D ;D ... the bush has a join in it,... and if one replaces the bush with the join between the 2 notches in the end of the extention,, as whoever did mine before, did,.. then its a pieceapiss, small screwdriver into the notches , whack with knockometer pops the join an bobs ya aunties live in lover, out she comes easy peasy, right sized bearing drift to cajole new bush, knockometered in ...(gently!!).. , new seal same ... hey presto.... 40 mins including a cuppa...... it was a very snug fit after that no leaks,... if join in old bush IS NOT between the closest points between the notches then beerbeddys method would be the best at an educated guess, an i def would have gone the "not lazy" ::) way had that been the case ... cheers bb for the input.... later ... skippy ;) ps yep the bush was "shagged" bbeddy, was worn smooth no grooving or round recesses left in it , like i mentioned , it was that loose,was like waving a sausage in the opera house ;D ;D ;D ;D ;)
