Dano
My brother's brother in law has one of the 4wd's CF's that knocked around Perth a few years ago, but I was told the owner has moved to Xmas Island (or some other island) and has parked it in a shed as a keeper for when he gets back from the posting. Apparently he has spent heaps on it and it isnt for sale.

Marty, i have been doing some research for some time now ... was going to go f100 gear , but have since been told to look at Nissan GQ gear, my fitters son races off road, running strokers 355+383 .... prob around 5-600 ponies, but swears by the diffs and boxes /transfer cases. Was told he scored a GQ the other week for $1600. will be doing some serious seaching in the near future......see how we go?
ps wheel track on the GQ was 20mm shorter too! than a SWB CF..
-
Make sure you get the 4.2D GQ drive line as the rest are different and much weaker.
-
wicked cheers Shane J
-
Hey Dano and Marty, I'm keen to 4WD my Beddy of 20yrs too, one last fling for the old Beast. Would be great and apreciated if you could keep this thred going with any new info you might dig up. So far I'm eyeing of every GQ patrol I pass, 4.2D of course!! And not happy when dragged out from underneath them at the woollies car park with a tape measure in hand! (joke). Anyway I'l be watchin this thred with baited breath. Cheers. Dan
-
I have a GQ if anyone wants to do some measuring. It has a 4.2D too ;) ;D
-
Hey ShaneJ, I bet even before I've written this you've got curious and jumped under the Beddy and GQ between rain bursts and done some mesuring yourself!! So come on spill it, what ya got for us??? :-X ::) ;D
-
I have thought about putting a bedford on a 4x4 chassis in the past but I like the wide low look of them. Once I have my bedford completed and used it for touring a few times I may think about it again.
Plus if I made mine a 4x4 I would treat it the same way I treat my GQ. This would be sad.
-
hey Shane J , you do realize ur now our GQ bitch and now have to get on your back when we demand! ;D :D 8) ::)LOL....sorry, but buddy ,mate ,pal, chum, can you pls take a few pics of the front suspension and chassis rails pls.....fixing points etc ,engine mounts,
cheers big fella ! Dano.

I'll see what I can do mate. I'm meant to be taking delivery of my new hose this week so I think I'm going to be busy moving :( Leave it with me though.

I got a few photos this afternoon but I'm not sure what you really want to see. See my gallery and let me know.

Great photo's ShaneJ, looking at them, I'm thinkin that if you mounted the shock and springs to Beddy chassis rail, like there mounted up on GQ top rail, the beddy would be about six feet of the ground. The GQ chassis rail arks up and down for susspension clearance. What do you guys reckon??
-
I would imagine when people fit 4x4 chassis to Bedfords they would be using leaf spring setups for that reason?
-
Looking back throu the photo's, the diesel 4wd Beddy has coil springs(aparently F100) but I cant tell if the chassis rails have been lifted?? Also the wheels are so close to the front of a beddy leaf springs would pratrude out the front to much. :-\
-
I'm havin a go at answering my own question but........Maybe the extra hight is needed to clear the beddy wheel arches???? and if it's to high, you can maybe cut down the springs a bit??????
-
You could easily use smaller wheels to fit the beddy arches and you could lower the spring/shock perches to clear the beddy body and then you could use shorter springs and shocks.
-
Cheers Shane, finally got back to the pc, the photo's are perfect thanks mate good luck with ur move as I'm stiil trying to finish off the kithcen now , should be done in a couple of days. then I get to work on the two of them, LWB +shorty........keep yas posted
-

Hey Dano did you get any engineering history with that 4x4 set up coz you might have a battle on ya hands (sorry i didnt mean to piss in ya Bed....ford ;D) thats why I didnt look at it ;) but im sure we can sort it out but Cheers Neil
-
yep I know what ya mean Merlin but after a LOT of research i believe it one of twelve made out of the Ritter/holden factory,(they did all the overlander conversions for GMH) more photo's to come + as we all know it's not what you know ........... ;) ;), busy celebrating at the mo.........BBUUUUUURRRPPPPP!!!!!!
-
soon tobe a lime green bedford 4 x 4.....
-
hey guys, if you use an F100 or GC how would the engine sit, would you have to move it one way or another so it sits in the beddy's existing engine hole. I have always wondered sticking a cabover onto a conventional. I do hope we see a few more 4x4 beddys out there. As for the van in the shed at xmas island, do you think they would allow someone to ware their camera out on it. lol
I agree lets keep this thread alive, a 4x4 beddy is 3rd on the list for me. I have to finish this van, then my monaro [when i find one] and then a 4x4 beddy. And then lotto. lol ;D ;D

well it's official,
after entertaining a few bevies, the ol Indiana Jones came out and a midnight adventure was to take place, it was set, at the strike of twelve we were to embark on the beast, with torch in hand and wife's whip by my side, we swung into action, opening all doors at once we pounced!!!!! the creatures of bedford darkness stunned like E.T. on a teddy bears cupboard picknic swamped with flood lights and the scary sight of this fat bsturd with a whip, i found the gold load the mother of all beford treasures..... the history folder ......all the previous owners reciepts and police permits and engineers certificates....including Ritters owners manual.
YOU........ 'KIN........................ BBBBBBEEEEAAUUUTTTYYYYY !!!!!!!!
-
If its a ritter it will sail over the pits! :)

Have got 15x8 sunraysia 4" lift rancho lift kit hope to start conversion soon.
-
wicked Garry, what made you go GU over dana diffs any thing you found? I believe there both pretty bullet proof ?,
A mates just scored a supa 4.2.turbo patrol + lift..... kit bla bla bla so I gotta get me skirts on. the LWB is nearly finished..... oh for more hrs in the day.
-
Hey Garry, can you make sure you document the whole build for us mate. Can you give us pics of the parts list as you go. Looking forward to seeing a bedford go 4x4, have'nt seen one since the BUSHBOSS.
We have a company here at yatala in brissy, and they build replica hummers, they also use the GU rolling chassis, so they must be a reliable running gear. I have wanted to do a 4x4 beddy since the first time i saw the bushboss, so if yours is a success, who knows.
george.

Busy that is a great site, with all the info that you could need for a 4x4 conversion from the side links. thanks
