Hey Guys
I'm up to the diff heartache
I have a swb cf 1975 with a 3.8lt v6 holden motor. Not sure what diff is currently on it but it's narrow.... Very narrow....
What are my options? Can I widen it? or do I need a whole new diff???? If so what diff would suit a 3.8lt v6 holden motor? diff ratio?

I'm running a 3.8 vy currently and i purchased my diff off Ben, she sits very well on 120 but i have no idea off the ratio - give Ben a ring or msg, tell him its the highway diff i bought off him a few years back.

The original ratio for the V6 commodore is 3:08:1, you can stay with that or go to mid 3's, 3:5:1 or similar to allow for the aerodymanics of the CF

This diff thing is not an easy fix Use the FORUM diff section Its all in there First of all what gearbox are you useing if it's the overdrive box that most V6 come with then you will need 3.5 to 4.0 would work best But if it's only 3 speed auto or 4 speed manual then 3.08 is the go The 3.08 is the easiest to get Most holden & ford use this ratio as standard so there are plenty around Second you wont find a diff that is as wide as the standard beddie they are the widest on the planit I dont know about F100 or old chev diffs but you need to go late model so you can get parts for then useing old stuff that you can get cheap is fals economy cant get parts & cost a fortune to repair The diff you have in there now sounds like a standard holden width If your handy with a welder or have deep pockets you could build a diff like mine which makes it 100mm wider useing standard parts then you have driveshaft problems I was lucky it bolted streight up Then there is break lines & handbreak cables different wheels Its all hard work you change one thing then you have to change 100 others If you are not handy with tools & dont know much about mechanics then you better get a second job Well enough of my ranting Beddies can be a lot of fun so best of luck Cheers Reid

The AU Falcon is the widest diff of all the late model cars I was going to use one stock width but it meant getting special offset wheels made so they would clear the rear springs & I didnt want to have special things made only wanted standard components so parts were easy to get The Holden parts are easyer to get & cheaper but the diff is not as wide so needed widening

Hey Restoreid - is widening hard to do? would a diff guy be able to do this quite easily?

Thrills Go to FORUM scroll down to DRIVELINE click DIFFS then click Restoreid's VS diff conversion It's all there in picturs Would cost a fortune to get a diff place to doo it Cost me about $100.00

There's no small jobs on bedford's You start at one end & work to the other Iv been at mine for 6 years & still not finished & Im retired You change the diff then you gotta change the front brakes so the wheels match Like I said you change one thing you gotta change 100 other things Hope Im not scarin you they are a lot of fun Just dont go too wild otherwise it will end up down the back yard rustin away caus you cant get it regoed & if it's regoed now DONT let it run out Have fun Cheers Reid
