Title: My Interior
Post by: Hobbit on April 08, 2013, 04:46:39 PM
                                        A DARK LITTLE DEN

Pic1.
I bought sheets of 5mm, 10mm & 20mm thick 'Formshield' from Clark Rubber. It's an Aluminium
Foil laminated Polyethylene (PE) closed cell foam, which is perfect for insulating and soundproofing
a Bedford van. The 5mm, with self adhesive, was used under the engine cowl.  It's fire resistant
too. (Around $20 for 1m)

Pic2.

To retain maximum cargo space, I went with the exposed beam look. I like practicality. The visible pillars etc. were painted with 1 pack epoxy etch primer, multipurpose UC, and acrylic lacquer. For max. headroom, the roof lining is only a single layer of marine carpet. I glued the aluminium side of the 20mm PE to the walls between the horizontal body bracing, then glued strips of the 10mm PE in these gaps to create a flush surface for carpeting.

Pic3.
The 20mm foam is easily cut and fits nicely in the channels, and around the back corners. After
covering with marine carpet, trimming mostly a matter of leaving 15-20mm extra material and
simply tucking it in.

Pic4.
Although I considered using 'Weathertex', for less weight I cut a 6mm marine ply floor and sealed it
with three coats of paint.

Pic5.
With an underlay sheet of 3mm open cell PE packing foam, and then............THE NEW CARPET !!!

THANKS GUYS,

From experience, it's better to do a proper job yourself than pay someone else to do a half-arsed job.

G'day Waseem,

I used a contact adhesive to glue the PE foam and then the marine carpet to the walls.
Being able to spray the adhesive onto the surfaces is an advantage, however, a large paint roller works well too. I just cut everything to size and glued it on. The 10mm Formshield is also available with self-adhesive, but it is on the foam side, not the foil side. The 20mm foam I used has made my van
really quiet. A huge difference.
