Title: yellow but not yella?
Post by: Worzel on November 11, 2008, 08:07:40 AM
can anyone help?
I have a 186 that the previous owner tells me has a yella terra head. Can anyone tell me if it is so? (there is some yellow paint under the orange but y'know, yellow paint doesn't cost much.

along the head is cast 2811929 HOLDEN J177 7 H (the last H is in a circle )

Worzel look in the inlet ports, if the "cast" support has been removed and a thinner spacer fitted to improve air flow then it's most likely a Yella Terra. The H means High compression

Worzel, take the tapped cover off and have a look, if it has sqaure push rod holes double valve springs it may be a good chance it is. But the square push rod holds gives you a good idea. As for the yellow paint look under the yellow if there is any other paint other than yellow.  My ideas only could be wrong. Should have roller rockers as well.

Hmmmm, i was just gonna throw it in. has good compression. :-\
I have to change the sump and water pump, but what a pain - to take the starter motor off you have to take the extractors off, so i'll put a new one on when i put the trimatic on it.
