Title: Black EFI 202 into CF Bedford
Post by: Jock on November 09, 2008, 10:55:14 AM
Eddy,

I have started this post for you my friend, your other one got hijacked!

What you were asking for was help/advice and any info on putting a Black EFI motor into your Bedford.
I found a few things that will be of assistance.

This page is FULL of helpful information, a great 'step by step' guide.

This should take care of any questions to do with wiring...

This is another good page showing the conversion into a HZ sedan....
http://holdenpaedia.oldholden.com/EFI_VK_Conversion

AND I would give this bloke a call and have a good old chat to him, he has already done the conversion on a Beddy in 2003:

BedfordBloke on Wed, 08/01/2003 - 23:46.

I have converted my Bedford Van, (originaly red 186, trimatic box long shift) to a 3.3l VK Black motor and much or less it was a strait bolt in job.
This motor should bolt onto your original GearBox and will fit the engine mounts etc.. On the outside the 186 and the 3.3L are pretty much the same size..

THINGS YOU SHOULD WATCH FOR...
Good chance you will need a few things off the old 186 to go onto the Black 3.3l to make it fit, so dont throw it away, keep it handy during the swap...
You will most likely have to change over the sump and oil strainer as they differ in alot of different holdens...

The Fan, Water Pump and pully setup at the front of the engine on the VK could cause you some probs, It is longer overall than the 186 so it may foul on your radiator. You will not know this till you put it in so do not worry you can change over the pully's fan and in an extreem the water pump... BTW Do you need the Air Cond and Power Steering, These run off another pully that can be removed to make room.... I would just recomend in these cases just to get rid of the fan and have Thermo's...

With the wiring it is an EFI engine with computer and tachometric relays and all kinds if gear that you should get an auto electrition to hook all this up because it is a HeadF@*k....(I know an awsome MOBILE Auto Electrc's Guy that did mine..In Sydney)

There is pleny more I can let you know about my convertion and I hope many of them will relate to yours....
Also talk to Sammy on this site, he has helped me alot as well...

So Jock you failed to tell everyone that they had to cut the floor & moddify the engine cover to clear the injection manifold

G'day

My 2 bobs worth...

The EFI is definitely worth doing but don't use the wiring or ECU which is analog and not programmable.
Get the ECU and wiring harness from a 2 litre Camira. It is easily removable from the car and to fit it to the VK the only modification is 2 extra injector plugs and the Throttle Position Sensor needs to be swapped for one off a VN Commodore. The reason is that the Camira sensor turns the opposite way. You could even get keen and fit a VN throttle body. The ECU is the Delco 808 which is programmable.

If you Google:
Delco 808 202
You find many nights of reading about other blokes who have already done it.

4 years... It goes so fast doesn't it! Good to hear you still have the Bed-bug! I have been well mate, got married and pushing forward with our business - it all takes time but it's happy days. I am currently working on the Beddy and will have it registered in a month or so, pretty pumped to get it back on the road. A trip down south is on the cards.

Keep well.

WOW!!!

signed up to this forum and been browsing looking at all the options of motor swaps, i am thinking i'd love to get a bedford and use it for a tow vehicle for my race car but not sure what way to go with driveline, but then i saw this thread and i couldn't believe it :)

the first picture of the efi with purple manifold is my wifes EH we did that conversion and i wrote the info to go along with it, then further down this thread there is info on delcohacking.net on converting the VK EFI to use a delco ECU and that is also the thread that i wrote  ;D

i'm stoked to see people getting use from the info and in places i didn't expect to see hehehe!!

now all i need to do is find money and a decent bedford ..... simple really lol!

i like the idea of having an EFI 202 bedford with an efi turbo 202 race car :) (its the gemini in my avatar)
