Okay,at first i was gonna be a smartarse and say 'brain damage from the paint fumes'......chroming.....get it?? hah hahh
but i thought better of it - mate that sounds EXCESSIVE!
Try these guys - http://www.modernplating.com.au/ (http://www.modernplating.com.au/)
I had some parts for my bedford chromed at a very popular place in dandenong which for legal reasons i wont name, but my door hinges, grill, bonnet hinges and headlight surrounds are now chock full of rust - and that started happening in a matter of months after i had it done and they wern't even fitted to the van yet - DONT GO THERE!
I had my side pipes for my corvette done at modern plating and the two of them cost me $500.00 and mate, they are as shiney now as the day i installed them ( a couple of years ago).
I highly recommend them.

Modern Plating were featured on an episode of 'Gasolene' last year. It's good to know, they also do Ceramic Coating. Super-professional resto work on chrome parts. Very impressive. 8)

Y'know MTY that was definaterly an option but i'm kind of a once bitten twice shy person. I should have researched more for a start - any way, in the long run i have cost him way more business than he would have had by putting the message out there.

Thanks for the replies, will just need to check and see with the cost of freight if it is a worth while execise. I currently have a pretty good painted one on the van at the moment which a put a pretty big scratch in and was just wanting to compare if repainting the grill or getting the other one chrome plated was a better option. Sounds like the touch up paint might still have to do.

Just sent Modern Plating an email quote request so will let ya know how I go.

thats a good price had a 36 plymouth grill done cost $1600 and would pay it again
you can drop the cost by doing some of the work your self

Hi Noid. Have you tried Electroplating Technologies in Queanbeyan?
I've had a few items done there which weren't too expensive.
-
Hi Hobbit thanks for the tiip, will give them a go. Got the price from Modern Plating and it was $880.
-
paint it ... ;D
-
Got the price from Electroplating Technologies $500 but their plating bath can only take up to 1200mm doh! So after all that the first price looks pretty good. But not sure if I can justify the cost now so will most likely keep with the painted :D

Hey Noid, why don't you try chrome painting. No not from a can. it is a longer paint process but you cant pick a chrome piece from a chrome painted piece. Its done with a gun, but it then get hosed off and you are left with this awesome chrome finish, it gets baked just like a normal paint job, and last just as long. Who does it, and how much, try a few spray painters.
