Hey Guys,
looking for some input around what auto tranny people are using of have used in the past in bedfords.
Thinking just a regular 3 speed will be fine?
Im just sick of the dramas with linkages and city traffic and auto will make more sense.
whats the do and donts?
thanks guys.

I've got the origanal Trimatic

P13
Does the van currently have a 3 peed or 4 speed manual??
Shifters and linkages can be rebuilt easily to take out any of the slack, Ive done it before.
The standard trimatic will bolt straight up, and they work fine.
So it just depends on which way you want to go, and how much money youve got.

Cheap option: Trimatic rebuilt , change diff gears if necessary.
Expensive option, or if you do a lot of Highway miles: Turbo 700 - a lot less revs, engine wear and noise.

Hi Pirate.....Ive got a old holden 6 (173) + trimatic in my truck and i reckon its a bloody good box. It also had a transmission oil cooler installed when i bought it . I do think that this has extended the life of the box especially when she is loaded up. Cheers...Johnno

red 6 / t700 conversion...worth a thought. Has anyone done it? cheers

That sounds interesting. How is the shifter setup?

ahhhh Ray made up a linkage thingy...and we have a box over it now... will have to wait and i will get him to take it off n i will take some pics....the original gear shift comes out well behind the base of the hand brake...the linkage works fine...so does the gear box..love it on the freeway ..as i do a run to Sydney once a fortnight from morisset ...really reduces high engine revs at 110 / 120 mph :D
-
120mph?...you revhead!! ;D ;D ;D
-
I'd love to use the 5 speed when I fit the falcon engine but having the shifter behind the seats makes things difficult ???
-
Ahhh nah ray made it so the gear stick is in the perfect spot next to driver... He fabricated
a linkage that brought the gear stick back next to driver...works well...he would b happy
to chat if u want.
