Got the new baby home yesterday, now its time to assess the bodywork in more detail but to date - its a real easy fixer, bugger all rust and very few dents - my panel beater / painter reckons she's an absolute pearler!!
Still haven't decided on what to do.....retro rebuild - easyroller - scooby doo or standard restore!! decisions decisions, either way it will be a thorough rebuild when the time comes - but i will say this, she has a sweet as a nut 173 red in her that just purrs like a pussycat and she also has drums all round which i had rebuilt last week - all of which will not be changed for "discs" or EFI or 350's etc. whatver i do to her, the drive train will remail totally unmolested (excluding the diff). If it was good enough in the 70's well its good enough for me!!!
-
$hite Mezzmo thats one sweet Beddy.
If your going to keep the running gear standard, then go the whole hog - standard restoration would be my choice :)

-
NICE Mezzmo, 8)
That looks like the one which was selling for $6000. Phoned up about that one myself.
Love those old school seats. Well working drum brakes are still quite efficient. Cheers.
-
Hey Mez....If she was mine and i was keeping the drivetrain, I would be looking at doing a custom paint job
you know like a colour that was around in the 70s but with a trick pearl in the clear, then go widened original rims powder coated with white walls and chromed hubcaps. Retro old school ;D ;D ;D ;D She is a beautiful thing to behold ;) ;)
-
nice one:) love it!! man they did a great job designing the body of the cf van:)
-
Hey Jonno we think alike mate, although if i go that way my choice of color was a toss up between that aqua/green ish colour you see on a few rods or a real pale butter yellow. Some Chrome highlights and the inside painted exactly the same with a timber floor (like the pick ups). I just cant decide. Trouble is Benny has too many fibreglass options for me to choose from now!
It is the same van Hobbit, i went and saw it some time ago and although in amazing condition, i thought 6K was a bit much - lets just say i was in the right place at the right time a few weeks ago and got it for substantially less than the original asking price.
-
Some updates - bought a set of Jellies off Benny last week - bit of spit an polish, some new rubber and she looks a treat in her new shoes!
-
Lookin' good Mezzmo,
I really like those centre caps. Are they new? Where can I get some?
-
Thanks hobbit, centre caps r available through mr lug nut in lilydale Melbourne, about 10 bux each I think- only plastic tho
-
Excellent Mezzmo, I have some genuine 'Cheviot' center caps, but they're not as choice as those. Thanks man, I'll give 'em a go. :) :) :)
-
What a difference some mags and tyres make ::) Good stuff Mezz
-
top looking van mezzmo!!
-
Like it :)
-
Sweet Diggs Mezz ;D
-
Thanks man........just the beggining!!!!
-
Hey Mezzmo,
I received my new centre caps from Mr. Lugnut today. THEY'RE GREAT!!!
The mounting holes line up perfectly too...so much better than the ones I had.
I"M REALLY STOKED! ;D ;D ;D THANKS AGAIN. Cheers.
-
Good stuff Hobbit, you'll have to post some pics.
-
Howdy fellow Bugga's
I started digging around the body work a bit more over the last couple of weeks and did find a bit more rust than i thought there was, the repairs on most of it were pretty well above standard but i want her fixed properly, so, she went off to the soda Blasters today as i have definately learnt my lesson from last time.
I want to see her stark bollock naked to assess exactly what im in for.......then i'll make some further decisions, stay tuned.
I will be posting pics up in my gallery on the progress as it goes along.
Cheers
Mezz
-
That's the go Mezz, starting from bare metal will ensure a more worthwhile respray.
-
I love how we say " we keep it stock and just drive it". Then it happens, we dream and think what if. Then we do and do... Good yah ;D
-
Well, here she is as naked as the day she was born! - gotta tell ya, im super excited about this project, my good mate John Evans (ex vancraft) is fully with me on the build and its gonna be a blast - next stop, epoxy putty then off for the rust removal.......like a kid in toy shop i am!!!
More pics in my gallery (last page) and i'll keep em coming as she progresses!
-
See how excited i am.....i forgot the pics.....look away if you dont like nudity, not an ounce of paint on her body!!

G'day John,
They have quoted me 89 english pound for each, that doesn't include delivery though.
-
Hey Mez, is there a website with pics for these parts?
Cheers
-
Here's the address, you have to look through the newsletters to see the products, cant remember which months. Adrian Bailey is the owner and he's a cool guy - very helpful.

Woo Hoo, got the call from "boy wonder ' today, he's hand making some lower door skin panels for the Cargo Door and the Right Hand Barn Door - i purchased that full Left Hand Barn Door Skin from Qld last month that was on ebay that he's also fitting and he reckons he wants a trial fit on the van by the end of this week!!!
Getting the other bits from England - hopefully on their way here in a couple of weeks so it's all looking to be on target for the Bright Rod and custom Show in November - fingers crossed!!!
I'll put up some pics when i get em
-
Got my doors back from Marty the magician last week, not only did he fabricate the lower outer skins, he remade the inner frames as well where they were rusted - now the proud owner of 1 x cargo door and 2 x barn doors completely rust free!!!! pics in my gallery if you wanna have a squiz
-
Started working on the dash yesterday, pretty happy with the result so far. I was going to graft an old EK dash in but after measuring and calculating i figured that the time and money would be well spent on other things, kind of glad really, i've always had a soft spot for the Easyroller Dash anyway.
-
Nice and tidy. Looks good Mezz.
-
Good looking dash Mezz.
-
Looks great! Are you going to keep it white?
-
Its painted in 2 pack primer at the moment, i'll end up painting it the same color as the van exterior.
-
Been researching these Vintage Air systems.........mate do they sound like the dux guts, i spoke with my resident Auto Elec (as a digression, if you ever need a sparky local Melbourne Metro - you WILL NOT get any better than this guy.........and he's mobile) James reckons they are a piece of piss to fit and the option are endless - when the time comes, i was thinking of doing a video 'expose' to show how its done.....any takers?
it's not real cheap, about $1700.00 but its full air con and heating - woo hoo
-
Mezzmo,
I have been looking at this system too. TCR components are agents for Vintage Air in Bayswater, http://www.tcrcarponents.com.au (http://www.tcrcarponents.com.au)
I will finish my bodywork before I get to this stage. Let me know how you get on.

last two weekends have seen plenty of work on #2 beddie - compression tests etc all passed with flying colours front end end out - wazzas loan frontt end in - little 173 fully degreased, sandbalsted and repainted, new gasket kit ready to be unleashed - next comes the full disassembly of the front end, paint, new bushes, reassembly etc etc - fully reco,d 4 speed aussie box purchased and ready to fit - havin a f'ken ball - i sit behind a desk all week so this greasy shit just ROCKS!
-
Yea, me too. Hate the desk, but the pays too good..... ;D ;D Just wish it was the other way around.... 2 work & 5 on Bedford. Spent today with an angle grinder and Mig.
-
Out with the old - a bit of spit, bit of sweat, lick of paint and a few cans of liquid gold - and here she is!!!
-
Looks good! :)
-
Yep, looking good Mezz !

Woo Hoo, gotta love these productive weekends!!! old front end out, stripped, cleaned and repainted - re bushed - re ball jointed - new shocks in and reassembled - wonder why i'm aching??? ;D
I'm wondering what you are on..... ;)
-
Great couple of weekends! Engine bay is now in primer, the under body is washed, stripped and painted ( between chassis rails as there's a lot to do round the lower body) new diff all rebuilt, painted and looking pretty, all hubs redrilled to ford pattern (for my new hotwires) springs sandblasted and ready for paint (once the bushes are in)
Hoping to fit the new diff, springs and shockers next weekend and then she,s outa my hands and into the loving arms of Jonny Evans and the crew down at Race Paint in Mordialloc.
I'll post some pics soon
-
Patience grasshopper your time will come
-
Mezz, you are an absolute machine !
-
Coming from you Gordon thats a compliment!!!!
Gotta love a nice clean underside!! - thats the second time i've done this, i only hope it's the last!! - more in the gallery
-
Got the nod last night that my beddie is off to Race Paint on friday as they will be ready to go with her! Perfect timing as i've done all i can do until she's painted so now i guess it's back to the Variety Beddie getting her ready for next years bash to Noosa!
-
And so the body work begins!!! awesome stuff from the boys at Racepaint
-
Exciting times indeed Mezz. Looks like they are making good progress.!
-
Good to see the "Jimmy Dancer" being cut out
More pics please :)
Warren
-
Update........Dropped in to race paint today and the boys have been going nuts! All the rust is GONE- all the new panels are welded in - all the little dents have disappeared all the boor jambs have been stripped - shes been hi filled and was being rubbed back as i stood there and Johnny was telling me he's starting all the fibreglassing this week! Moral of the story - you can send it to a cowboy and pay less, but you give it to the pro's and it not only gets done - it gets done properly! these boys are magicians and i could not be happier!

Test fitting the bonnet and lower section
-
Just uploaded a website www.easyrollermk2.jimdo.com (http://www.easyrollermk2.jimdo.com) showing the progress of the new baby plus some other bits and pieces - if anyone can contribute i'd greatly appreciate it.
thanks
Mezz
-
Mate, that looks awesome, cant wait to see the finished product....nice one
-
lookin good,
its going to be be a show stopper thats for sure,
what colour you going to do her?
-
Thanks guys, she,s certainly coming along. re colour, I'm not sure at his stage, i think as Jonny is kinda putting his heart into the rebuild I'm going to leave that choice to him. I have a strong suspicion that black will be the colour but its what else that he does with it that will make it unique........time will tell!
-
hey Mezz, can you pls ask the boys what product ,and whos, theyr'e using for the dripcheck? for in and under the gutters, down the side seams etc? cheers Dano
-
No worries Dano, I'll be talking to the next week. Mate, if I forget, don't be shy to kick my ass to remind me!
-
Ooooh Yeah, new grill in place, lower skirt all fixed and fitted.......almost there
-
I've documented the build as well as some bits and pieces on the variety beddie, you can check em out on
www.easyrollermk2.jimdo.com (http://www.easyrollermk2.jimdo.com)
hope you like!!
-
Hi Mezzmo, this grill really makes the easy roller front look great, very clean and neat, the boys down there are doing a great job, I should go round and see John, there only round the corner from my work
cheers
Graham
-
Lookin good buddy :)
-
Yeah thanks Graham, it does look a little different doesn't it? Your front ends ready when you are Wazza - thanks so much for the load, got me out of a shitload of trouble. I can hoist it into my van and drop it off but getting out at the other end is a hiccup!
Let me know what you want to do mate
cheers
-
WOOOOHOOOOOO what a weekend - started work on the bash beddie yesterday and got so much more done than i thought i would - i reckon one more solid weekend and she'll be off to Racepaint for the graphics for this years bash........gotta love it hen a plan comes together
-
Just got back from racepaint and the van now in undercoat and ready for paint, they are hoping for it to be completely finished by the end of next week!! one very excited Mezzmo ;D
-
Awesome news Mezz. What's the final decision colour wise ?
-
Ooooh Yeah, new grill in place, lower skirt all fixed and fitted.......almost there
is the grill custom or off of something?
-
gotta be happy with that!
-
Colour has been picked - we've decided on 'white metallic', and the grill, i believe is from a Toyota, not sure of the model. John happened to have it laying around the shop and thought it might fit - i love the look.
-
The grill looks mint and I would try to find out what's it off as I'm sure others with a Vancraft nose would WANT one
-
Got word that all the hanging panels were finished in paint today!! looks like final assembly tomorrow and Thursday and maybe even the final cut and polish Friday. She's really looking the goods now, so glad i went the white option instead of black.
-
Looks awesome Mezz. What a great colour choice. Could be a really exciting weekend for you.
-
One word. WOW
-
nice ;D
-
Thanks Gordon, unfortunately i don't think she'll be home this weekend which is a bummer coz its a long weekend here. not to worry, theres plenty of time.
-
Perdy!!!
-
lookin damn fine Mez
Warren
-
Called in to Johns this morning to see your new baby, great colour, the flake is big enough to see, some times its difficult to see flake on white, will look great in the sun light, bet you con not wait to get it home, very jealous, it will certainty stand out
cheers
Graham
-
Looking good
White just seems to show the classic curves well
-
Ha ha Graham, you got to see it all finished before i have! She's being picked up on saturday morning for the journey home, john said he's not going to cut and polish until its completely finished but the shine straight off the gun looks amazing - and here's the kicker, it was the first paintjob for Johns young apprentice. Nice to know that in years to come he'll look back with a smile that his first job was a beddie!
-
He should be pleased, a Bedford is not the easiest to paint and he has done a great job, so it looks like you will be busy this week end.
-
Looking good in the pics Mez, looking forward to seeing it in real life
Warren
-
Definitely a great weekend, got the girl home on Saturday - engines in, brake lines done (almost) life is good!
-
looking nice
-
yeah definately! better than factory i bet!!
-
Looking great Mez
-
Started putting some her jewellery on - mirrors, fuel cap etc!
-
My son and I got to see (Cinderella ??) yesterday and my don't she look awesome in the flesh, Mezzmo is doing a fine job in putting her all back together.
He even got to slip her box in (or is that the other way round) and he couldn't stop grinning ;)
Thanks for the beers and conversation Mez
Warren
-
Always a pleasure Wazza, thanks so much for the help mate i really appreciated it.
-
Looking good Mez! Don't forget to come visit me (and my beddies) on your maiden voyage. I'm in Seaford now, just round the corner from you ;D
-
No problem Mark, hopefully not too far away from being on the road - fingers crossed!!
-
did you sort out your air cleaner ? i have removed the one from my bedford, so it is available if you want it ?
-
Thanks Sammy, i actually found mine last Sunday - it was inside my parts cleaner trough! i knew i didn't throw it out - thanks very much for the offer though, really appreciate it.
Mezz
-
beauty...van..love the photos keep them coming....did u end up getting new panels from england??
-
Yeah, i ended up getting inner and outer sills, rear lower inner and outer and full set of wheel arches. i didn't end up needing the wheel arches due to the flares. I reckon she has to be the most rust free beddie around at the moment!
-
rear lower I assume is the panel behind the back wheels ? interested to know where you got them from if you don't mind ?
-
Got them from here http://www.roverland.eu/bedfordcf.html (http://www.roverland.eu/bedfordcf.html) they had to be made and to be honest you would be just as well to go to a panel maker in NSW. it would no doubt work out cheaper if thats all you need - i got a lot of stuff so it was sort of worth it - if you look in my gallery or go to www.easyrollermk2.jimdo.com (http://www.easyrollermk2.jimdo.com) you will see them being fitted, as you will see by the pictures they needed a bit of work.
hope this helps
Mezz

-
Been a very busy few weekends on the new baby, all door rubbers are now in and the sound proofing is all but done (man that is a job and a half) seats bases have been cut down painted and bolted in and just finished mounting the new Subaru bucket seats - very comfy indeed!
-
Woo Hoo, had the auto elec come by today to check that I've made all the right connections and put things back the way they should be, tweaked the new dizzy a bit (electronic ignition.........how schmancy) a couple of pumps of he ol peddle and hey presto...........she fired!
AWESOME!!!
One happy little Mezzmo
-
gotta be happy with that!! so whens the maiden voyage ?? :)
-
I,m hoping to get her on the road by the end of May - fingers crossed.

Mezz, have you used new door rubbers or were your originals still OK ?
-
Hi Gordon, i put a complete set of new ones on - purchased them from Rare Spares.
-
Thanks Mezz. I've heard that the Rare Spares ones are supplied as lengths of various profiles that you need to put together yourself. is that correct ?
I'm also keen to find out if they were able to supply the outer window weather strips for the front doors. Cheers Gordon
-
Hi Gordon,
I have done the same as Mezz with the Rare Spares kit and yes you have to form and fit yourself. Rare Spares suggested to glue seals to frame but far better off fitting clips even though takes forever and you finger tips are sore for a week after but definately worth it.
For the outer door belt look in my gallery in the spares album and I have photo of belt and part number that was sourced by Rare Parts in Welshpool Perth WA and they fit very well.
Hope this helps.
Truck :)
-
Hi Truck
Thanks for this extra info. I've just taken a look see at the picture of the outer door belt in your gallery and noted the part number. Have you got a close up picture of the belt fitted on the door ? I'm keen to see how it sits compared to the originals.
Cheers Gordon
-
Gordon, if you order let me know, I need some for the camper as well. Bas
-
Will do Bas, funny that we were just talking about these yesterday.
-
Hi Gordon,
I will get a few pics tonight when I get home from work and put in same album.
Truck
-
The replacement outer door belt rubber doesn't have flocking (the fuzzy stuff) on the glass side, unfortunately.
-

Truck
Much appreciated, thanks Truck.
-
The replacement outer door belt rubber doesn't have flocking (the fuzzy stuff) on the glass side, unfortunately.
Pity, but probably still better than my perished factory originals. Thanks Hobbit.
-
Hi Gordon,
More pics added to album Beddy Spares and I took a few of inner door belt showing profile. As you will see it sits perfect against glass but does bunch up slightly at curve either end of door frame which could be cut so it sits on straight but I thought it may help reduce the water that may flow down back edge when driving. I have weathershields so this will help protect front.
Yeh no felt on glass contact surface and if wanted could be added but too fidgity for me and besides van is parked under cover 90% of the time.
Hope this helps.
Truck
-
Hi Truck
I really appreciate you taking the time to post the pictures for me. Rare Spares have a branch here in NZ so I'm going to make contact with them today to see if they have stock. By the way I think the colour on your SWB is the business. Great choice.
Sorry for the thread hijack Mezz.
Cheers Gordon
-
Hi Gordon,
No problem. I know Rare Parts Welshpool ordered them from somewhere on the eastcoast for me. They give me some samples of other profiles to try but in the meantime found these which were a perfect fit in and out.
Thanks regarding colour and with chrome it really sets it off, pretty happy with end result and hoping inside turns out just as good.
Yeh sorry Mezz and hope this may help with any rubbers you may be chasing.

Yes but note its a soft rubber, not a hard pinch weld,
Thought: Move these Rubber / seal posts to a rubber seal section ? moderators... cheers, Poor Mezz...lol
-
Hi-Jack away boys, no problem at all
-
Great news on the Easyroller MK2 front - i actually took her for a test drive today with the new auto fitted in place of the 4 speed and i couldn't be happier if i was twins!! she went like a bird - Cant drive her home though, little matter of no headlights or front indicators so she's travelling home a flat bed for what i hope will be the very last time, next time she sticks her nose out the man cave will be under her own steam!!!
stay tuned - pics to come soon!!
-
In Perth we have a company called either Adlem Enterprises or Universal Engineers they carry all of the window flocking, anti rattle strips, door rubbers, etc.,etc. see if you have an agent near you otherwise they may be able to post to you
-
good to hear Mezz
-
Yep, great news Mezz. Bet you can't wait to get the last few bits sorted out. I'm looking forward to seeing some more pics. It really is a great looking van.
-
Thanks Gordon, just got the Headlights, indicators and front windows to go in and we're done.......next stop, interior!
-
I'm keen to hear what you have got planned for the interior Mezz. All will be revealed over time I'm sure :)
-
At this point Gordon i'm a bit stumped, i've been going through the gallery and searching sites in Europe and the States but nothings caught my eye yet.......looking.......looking!
-
It will come Mezz, you can't go wrong if you invest in a bit of homework first.
-
Very true indeed!
-
i was thinking of one day trying a mobile enema clinic....
rotisserie is the back, hose hanging out, can do it in driveway, if you have a sunroof charge them for a tan as well....mobile solarium
even try to turn the rear of van to look like an arse
sorry Mezz.....made me laugh one night when i couldnt sleep
-
Mezz there was that French van with a marble floor and chandeleer
-
OK, whoever it was that invented the window mechanism's for a beddy needs to be found and shot - buried then dug up and shot again - what a stupid, STUPID system - a preschooler could have come up with something better - after hours and HOURS of dicking around, the front widows are finally in and working - unlike my skinned knuckles and elbows!
OUCH
-
Yeah they arnt much fun thats for sure.
-
Hey mezzmo ,
Just remember on your second assassination attempt you must shoot the ZOMBIE in the brains
-
Awesome weekend on the Beddie, didn't get half the stuff done that i was aiming for but at least the windows and front indicators are in - next challenge is the headlights - don't know if i'm looking forward to that one!
-

mezzmo are they gear type or cable like some Cortina's?
-
mezzmo what about some universal power window kits?
-
I have a universal power window kit but i'm not sure now if i want to use it, the way the Beddies are i would have to make up a door skin to cover it and i haven't made up my mind yet as to the interior style.
-

fit the kit and see if it works first then decide on door trimming
-
three photo's down the bottom....this was an Autolok window kit , a worm drive system that the motor can be re-located along the worm gear from memory, (it was a while ago) and I didn't realize this till I was looking for same system online. This one was a 2nd handy on flea bay...cheap as ... the billet switches I used, I just got online somewhere. works well..

Getting close now, I have to go away for the weekend so i have to wait just a wee bit longer! Indicators are all fitted up and the headlights have been fitted for size and they go in like a bum in a bucket.....sweeeeeeet. Sparky has done everything he had to so that sides all finished. I reckon one more weekends work then she goes back to Racepaint for a few repairs (call me Mr all thumbs) then her final rubdown and polish. Really looking forward to taking her on her maiden run.
-
Well the day has finally arrived - tomorrow morning, really early the Easyroller MK2 will be hitting the bitumen for the first time on her maiden run, could be for 10 minutes or an hour........who knows but I will keep you posted. Watch this space. ;D
-
Wow bet ur stoked to have the van on the road. :D :D :D
Take a video or pictures! ;)
-
Bet you couldn't sleep last night Mezz, all the best for today. Looking forward to hearing how you get on.
-
Road test done!! went like a bird, no rattles bumps or otherwise - bit of steering wobble @100k's but the wheels haven't been balanced yet. Sitting on 3000 @ 100, bit higher than i thought but not too bad. Only hiccup i had was nearing home when i stopped at the lights she stalled - started right up again but then stalled again coming into my street - but again, started up no problem. Anyone have any thoughts?
-
She still looks a little under dressed without the rear roof spoiler but that will be fitted in a week or two.

Looks great mezzo,

Awesome Mezz. Sounds like just some really minor things to sort out. Well done mate !
-
mez how long had it been sitting? Try some fuel additive to clean the system out
-
Nice one Mezz!

Awesome mezz, who would ever think a plain white beddy could look so cool, white and chrome. Whats the inside going to look like mate.

hard to say without more detail, but could be carby flooding or something like that ?

vacuum leak ?

grit from sitting fuel tank....in fuel bowl? Carby..

I've got a feeling it could be the float level, once she's back from racepaint she will go in for a tune up & dyne, that should sort the problem!

Been a while since an update on the beddy - we were very proud to have been selected for a feature article in this months street machine magazine! Last weekend the funky carpet went in (50 bux on ebay) and now she's all but finished. Future plans are looking like a turbo to the little 6 as i want to keep the original motor for old times sake.

Mezz, it looks absolutely stunning. The interior is one of the nicest layouts I've seen. Brilliant job !!
-
Great work Mezzmo , really enjoyed your build thread . I'm sure your van is
gonna turn heads . Though most Beddies turn heads . The Easy Roller will have most
heads spinning :o . Will buy my first Street Machine magazine and a can of coke ;D
Cheers Frank

Thanks Gordon, pretty happy with the way it came up - considering the basis of it was done in 3 days!!! Enjoy the read Frank, it's a great edition with all the information from the Van Nationals.

Too kind Sammy, thanks!
