Hi Guru's,
Does any one happen to know any of the following information with regurds to CF LWB trucks:
1) Wheel PCD
2) Hub diameter
3) Wheel offset
4) Load ratings for the factory rim.
5) What is the largest Tyre Diameter any one has succesfully run on the front of one of these?
6) Are the standerd brake assemblies the same for the CF Vans and the Cab chassis/truck? Ours has a GVM of 3350 (or there abouts) if it makes any difference.
Now please correct me if I am wrong here, but I am lead to belive that the Bedford stud pattern is unique to Bedfors and that nothing else fits (Wheel wise).
And as such we are looking doing a disk brake up grade on the front...... however we probably wont be using the commonly used Commodore/HQ setup. At the momment I am thinking about using something like a Landcruiser rotor and 4 spot calliper or some thing off of a light truck/Bus(4500kg GVM) to keep the engineers and the RTA happy.
At this moment in time the deciding factor will most likely be Rim and tyre diameter ie if I stay with the original bedford stud pattern then I am limited to a 14inch wheel (Unless they made them bigger????? ::) I wish) And that limits brake and calliper options.....
On that note, do the larger Bedford trucks run the same stud pattern and a larger wheel diametre??????
It would be great if I could retain the original Bedford wheels, as that would mean that I can leave the back end alone..... butu if we Do change the stud pattern on the front, then most likely we change the rear end aswell..... just so we don't have to carry 4 spare wheels around (On the rally).

But if I go too big on the diameter of the rim, then I run the risk of wheels and tyres fouling on the bodywork and suspension ::)

For the lwb there were 2 stud pattern/types, the standard swb stud type and the steel wheel truck type wheel stud, the pcd is the same but the later studs are fatter and wont take the standard rims/mags.
hubs are 9 and 10 inch
I am pretty sure all the bedfords had the same offset rims
I don't think the rims are load rated as the springs and tyres are the moving rated parts - if your on rough terrain you'd want min 6ply
You can run as big as you want but clearance becomes an issue (hard lock and rubbing on inner guard), 14 is the standard but can go 15 with slightly lower profile, I think the standard diameter is 26in
Yes they were the same but things did change slightly through the series, the CF came out in 220, 250, ... 350 series - the bigger the number the more weight they could carry, the bigger (usually lwb) had added extras like rear load brake bias and the 10in drums while the smaller had 9in brakes and no diff bias. Some of the bigger ones also came out with multi leaf rear springs where as the smaller only came out with single (although it seems Aussie never got the single spring)
The weakest part will always break, especially if you beef everything else up. The weakest point in the front would probably be the lower balljoint, followed by the lower suspension arm itself (they crack in the spring seat)
me personally would use the steel wheel lwb front susp and rims (they not pretty but paint can do wonders), or front susp from an ambulance as they were beefed up a bit for the extra weight they carried.
If the van is to be always loaded I'd be sure to use the rear diff bias (bolts to the diff and has an arm that goes up to the floor - more weight = more rear brakes, else you'll find all the extra weight keeps the van going forward when your trying to stop in a hurry.

That is exactly what we're thinking.... larger Diam Rim, lower profile on the tyre.

Yep 14's on there at the momment, with 26' tyres..... Are there 15' rims available???? ;D

Are the J's the same stud pattern, with just a larger stud? Or are they completely different?

That looks like the steel wheel, big stud front brakes. They are the heavy duty of the bedford.
the trucks wheels are different
some 15 inch wheels, like commodore are still around the 26inch mark
most bedfords are 70 series tryes, the cars use more 60 series

These lovely Bedfords don't have a safety rim (ridge to lock the bead of the tyre on), Early transit commercial do and same bolt patern. Have seen after market sunraysias in 15's a couple of times, one had 4x4 tyres

After a bit of google imaging and looking a various tech drawings... I think I might have a solution.
From what I can gather I should be able to fit an early 80 series rotor and calliper up and still retain the bedford stud pattern and wheels.
I just need to get my hands on a rotor and calliper to do a trial fit and take a few measurements to make sure that the calliper will clear the inside of the rim.

If you have the 6 stud set up same as the LWB models then Ford Transit have 15 inch rims with same stud pattern
