Title: Dipstick ?
Post by: Postie Bob on November 26, 2012, 08:34:28 PM
Can someone tell me what `model` 186 I might have?
My dipstick has been broken off at the F for full mark  .  A replacement I got is shorter and wider than my original.
The dipstick guide on my engine is 22cm long . The stick measures 400mm from the seat to the F for full mark and is 5mm wide .
The replacement I got measures 345mm from seat to full mark and is 7mm wide.
Is there ID markings on the block that would tell me what type motor I have?
I got the `ol girl running but seems I have a clutch prob too . Doesn,t want to disengage when I push on the pedal .
It,s been sitting for 6-7 years and am wondering if the plate could be stuck or something . I,ll drop the cover off the bottom and see what ,s inside  :-\ .
Cheers . Bob.

Bob,

get the engine number off the block (Flat casting just forward of Distributor)
it is a combination of letters & numbers.

check it against this list:

http://www.uniquecarsandparts.com.au/holden_6_cylinder_engine_numbers.htm (http://www.uniquecarsandparts.com.au/holden_6_cylinder_engine_numbers.htm)

You will then know what model of red motor you need the dipstick from.

Clutch:  the shaft that the throw out bearing slides on may be rusted up.
If you can spray some CRC in and work the pedal back and forth.

Regards

Rhett

Thanks Rhett for the link ( some good info there )
Seems mine is a HR but I have a single barrel carb and not the 2 barrel as stated.
Most probably  different top bits on her ( head , manifold ,etc ) .
The motor runs sweet , will get to the clutch asap and see if it can be got working .
The li`l buggas been sadly neglected .
Cheers , Bob.
