Title: wipers ugh!
Post by: hypnosexray on September 19, 2012, 02:50:51 PM
hey friends,

was out cruisin the other day with barry, there was a spot of rain and the wipers stopped mid stroke... right in the middle of the windscreen! i think its the motor cos the switch seems ok. is the motor located behind the instrument panel? and how do i get it out?

barry is a '78 cf 350 and gives me many headaches or challenges as i like to call them.

any help would be appreciated   :)

hypnosexray, Hi.

Removing the wiper motor is a bit of an involved process. If you are doing this kind of work, I would suggest getting a Haynes CF owners workshop manual. To gain access, remove the demist centre duct, which comes from the heater, above the engine cover. Good luck.

Check out my new gallery photo and you can see where the motor is in the old dash photo

I was referring to the 'Main Air Distribution Duct', but it's certainly easier to see the location of the wiper motor in that photo, taggraphx.  That's one way to gain access.  ;)

The new dash really good man.

Thanks Hobbit, I wasn't realy going to touch the dash, but the whole VQ interior came up on flea bay, with seats, door trims and dash for $50, so I could not resit, it's amazing how close a fit it is for the bedford, the steering cloumn is VT

Hi Taggraphx....How did you attatch the dash frame to the beddy dash. Did you make up a frame work behind the vq dash or just screw it to the old dash? I am going to attempt the same idea to my truck but using vp dash... ::)

You have to cut a fair bit of the steel out of the bedi dash, mainly the top section, then I have welded 2 new end brackets that suport the new dash, the steering column was moved 30mm to the LHS, still using the bedford bracket, funny that there was allready holes in the bracket for this move, the bracket does not need any other mods except 2 new holes drilled in to the top 2 brackets
you do need to do a lot of trimming with the grinder with the new dash though, but I think its worth it, having all new easy replaceable switches and stalks makes it simpler for spares

Cheers
Graham

I am still working on it at the moment, next time its out for ajustments i will take a photo showing how much of the old dash was removed and the new brackets that have gone in
