Hi, has anyone is OZ or NZ got one of these that they could send to me, brake spring off 10" drum diff or anyone in NZ know where to buy one.
Also what is the correct wheel cylinder for the 10" diff, as you can see from the ( poor ) photos below, the old cylinder has a flat end on it, and the new ones have the ridge / slots that the shoe fits into as the 9" does, these are off a mini. only problem is that on the 10" this will hit the cylinder holding plate, when cylinders out, my engineer said to cut these off as they are only a guide for the shoes, and know longer needed if I use the cylinder with the solts in it ( 9" as this holds the shoe in place. Is this correct. Cheers Bas

a brake cylinder out on a mini fit straight in and connect up same fittings,
i rebuilt my brakes on my white SWB before i sold it about 4 years ago.
cheers marty

Yes they do on the 9" but this is a 10" drum, and has the holding bracket fot the cylinder and the springs, and the old cylinder has the flat ends, so does not hit this bracked, removing the guides on the bracked may work? Cheers

With no previous experience relating to bedford drums in their standard forms, id appreciate a little extra information..
If what I have interpreted is correct:
You have 10" drums, and that backing plate is off such. You have replaced the wheel cylinders and now they foul on the knobs as shown in the 4th pic.
The 9" drums have a different setup in relation to how the linings mount, thus not having the knobs which cause this particular issue.
Is this correct?
can someone provide a pic of how the 9" drums connect the linings to the mount for the spring return and wheel cylinder? I assume without any real knowledge, that these will be very similar, however liekly to not have this extra raised knob, or more offset version. If this is the case, it may be possible to remove this section from a set of 9" backing plates, and then mount them on your 10" backing plates. (Obviously grinding them would have a similar result)
The slots in the pins are there as much to stop the pin sliding off the linings as anything else.
That being said, you should be able to swap the old pins into new cylinders.
Generally the cylinders for the HQs will be supplied without pins.

Ok MaTTe, your first part is correct, I am using 10" backing plates and Drums on a 9" diff, as I was unable to get hold of any 9" drums in NZ........ better photos show the problem, the knobs on the cylinder bracket are only quides for the shoes, and the 10" (org) cylinders don't have the slots on the cylinders, so grinding them off sounds like the less trouble way to go............

Or you conld remove the knob that guides the shoe, as you wont be wanting that with the slots to retain the brake shoe

hey bas just out of interest wouldnt the bore size be different between the 9inch wheel cylinder and the 10" wheel cylinder? are you planing a prop valve to even things out?
cheers

Ben, it is my understanding the cylinders are the same, I have removed pistons, and both measure the same, also this diff is replacing the duel wheel system on the Jumbo, which already has a Brake load sensing valve set up to the back Wheels. this is standard on the Duel Wheel Jumbo's, you can also adjust it, so will try it out, the brake shoes are bigger on the 10" drum so more surface area, and single cylinder, so all should be ok.. :(

posted some pics of ford brakes in axle seal, might help?
