Title: gremlin attack - help needed please
Post by: butch on August 22, 2012, 07:56:12 PM
Hi all  :),

have no power to wipers/washer motor, indicators, oil lamp, charge light and hazard lights, i have checked/tightened all earth wire connections, bulbs are okay, cleaned all contact points in stick, cleaned all connections along wiring, cleaned connections at three junction boxes, cleaned fuse terminals and put new fusses in, replaced two relays and replaced both flasher cans, STILL NOTHING !!,
checked hazard switch and all looked to be functioning, contact points met up okay and nothing melted in the guts, fiddled with stick and found horn and hi beam flasher to be working okay, i then decided to play around and set the key to second position and jumped a wire from white/red at back of ignition barrel to power hazards and hazards came on but did not blink, i then used the same wire to put power in the stick connecting it with the green/slate wire contact point with stick in left indicator position and HELLO !! my wipers, charge light, oil lamp, temp gauge needle and left indicator came to life all lighting and moving to the beat of the flasher can....HMmmm ?, it all beats me....

does anyone out there know whats going on here ?

hi Butch

I'm not really following your instructions, but from the last bit it sounds like your powering things (incorrectly) from the indicator cct some how.

Indicators will NOT work WITHOUT the ignition ON, but the hazards will, hazzards have full time power to them.

There are wiring diagrams on the site here, they may help you with colour codes and wiring setups.

Sorry i can't help more

Warren

Try unclipping fuse box, and check/clean the rear terminals....sounds like fuse box issues,
worked for me

first of all check the fuse box for a blown fuse or bad connection, fuses feeding green wires (ignition) are the ones to look at. If this is ok next check the joining block of the green wires located behind the instrument panel in the loom where it comes through the big hole. Make sure they are all pushed in tightly and making contact. All this assumes your wiring loom is original and not re hashed by someone.

Hope this helps
Cheers Jeff
