Hello all :)
I am not yet a Bedford owner, but soon will be if all goes to plan.
And the plan is to get a Bedford for a Business van. I make very natural skin care and other therapeutic products & I plan to take over the world one skin condition at time. It has been decided that a Bedford will go very nicely with the image of the business.
Not yet decided if I get one and have it done up to suit my needs, or buy one that is already in good shape. Though the pretty ones seem to be getting away from us fast.
So I am here to get some advice and learn more about Bedfords in general.
My first car was a mini cooper, my second a fastback... that was anything but fast.
Cheers
Kate

:) thought you were another spammer for a second, nearly deleted you untill i read your post. you arnt are you?????? ;D lol, i dont think skin cream would help many of us bedford guys anyway, most of us are old wrinkly blokes, haha
where you from Kate?
bedford vans are awsome.
one would make a perfect work van for you.
just make sure you buy a good one.
and dont jump at one just because it looks good, get it checked out by someone that knows them.
good luck with the search, hope you find something that suits you.

looks ok , as long as its a true 60,000kms like stated,
if thats the truth it must be rust free.

I can't imagine he's owned it long enough to know whether the kms are real.
I always assume they've clocked over a few times. How high does a bedford odometer go up to?
Oh and old wrinkly skin loves my products, but I'm not here to sell :)
-
yeah they usually have gone around the clock a few times.
i find it hard to believe its 60,000kms. could verywell be though.
looks like its got original bedford hubcaps, they in themselves would be rare as.
but if it is its a colectors item, :)
id buy it n put it in a glass case.
maybe its a deceased estate? some old bloke might have had it stored away for 48 years.

Thanks for the welcome. Hubby's already hooked!

Depends kate, do you have someone, or a mechanic that can do the body and mechanicals. I guess if it is for work than it should be tax deductable. Try our mate benny, he is in your neck of the woods, he has his own beddy car yard ;D ;D ;D ;D he may have something. Depends on how much work you plan on doing.

Welcome to the site Kate.
As for getting a beddy, well that depends on a lot of things.
Do you (or a freind/family member) have mechanical and metalworking skills.
What is your budget.
These two are most important as they set the framework for your decision.
If you have no skill and a good budget, then buying a good "expensive" running registered car can be the easiest way to get started because if you have to pay someone to work on your van, the bills can quickly add up.
if you have the skills and a good budget then buying one cheaper, but requiring some work can make your money go further and get one to your liking
if you have no skills and a no budget then your stuffed :)
Remeber that these vehicles are 30 to 40 years old and as such most have rust issues and can have done may hundreds of thousands of kilometers so the chances of getting a good one is getting harder, there there but you need to be patient and look carefully.

warren pretty much hit the nail on the head,
thats the best advise you could get.

Actually that's not strictly correct. If you have no skills and no budget then you could just wait till he's not looking and steal Mezzmo's! 8)

Cheers Warren,
Yes I am aware of the issues with cars these age - but its been years since i had a really old car so I may be being a little naive about it, though our newer cars seems to always cost us a fortune too. Hubby has his heart set on one, I've been changing my mind.
We don't have skills, apart from Hubby - lets call him Mr Kate- Mr Kate can spray paint.
We do have some money, and the lovely govt are offering a rebate to small businesses for work vehicles... and our understanding is it can be any vehicle. We have been looking for Bedfords since January and have seen quite a few we were interested in be sold simply because I was saying we needed to wait till July to buy. Mr Kate has not been happy about this. The Innocents van was one we were very interested in, but the colours didn't suit & it seems wrong to get a vehicle like that and change it.
I am happy to buy a decent one and spend money on getting it sweet, as long as I can find someone I trust to do the work. My experience as a teenager with dodgey mechanics has left me weary. My budget... well that depends what I'd be getting but up to $15k but I'd want something totally mechanically sound & completely beautiful for that :)

Who is this Mezzmo? Where can he be found? What colour is his Beddy? ;) hahaha

Will look him up. And yes will all be a tax deduction- I just have to earn enough to make sure I get a deduction ;)

Here's Mezzmo's. I love it when it doesn't have all the graphics over it.

Thanks Wendy :)
Purple isn't the colour I'm after :) - but I'm after a mix of colours so I'm not likely to find one painted exactly how I want and I'd feel wrong re-spraying over a nice paint job.
I'll be sure to post some pics. Mrs Kate wont be able to help himself.
Cheers
Kate
