Driving along my usual back roads in the hinterlands of the shire..
i had decided to go an visit a mate
driving up his steep driveway..very steep driveway..
I had to give it a fair bit to get up there..and BANG!!
The Revs go thru the roof and the van starts sliding backwards down the steep incline...
no 1st..2nd 3 rd reverse nothing..
Had to get the Van towed home today...$150!!! Fuuck
Put the van up on stands....engage gears..tailshaft is spinning..but nothing at rears...
hmmm me thinks broken axels..or diff....
off w wheels..out comes axel 1..sweet as..only did wheel bearing last month..sweet
axel 2..aaarrrggh..curse..not moving....get slide hammer out..n massage the crap out it...15mins later
f***!!..out comes the axel....all the splines are gone!! looks like a hungry dog has eaten the end off and chewed it up
that means the other end must be in the crown n pinion..aaaaarrrggghhhh...
Any one got a Hwy diff for sale.??????
....BUGA i sold mine!!...ive already rang Benny the wonder boy... 8)

pulled out the centre..a few scores on the barrel where the spline enters..
but no damage to the Crown n pinion..phew..
out of the centre ..fell the end of the broken axle..
i cleaned out the diff housing..of lil metal bits.and again w a huge magnet.....
and put a new axles in and bolted it all together..n Yay..Beddy that went bang..now all fixed and back on the road 8)
PS a lil trick I learned today if ya ever need a slide hammer on the axles...
u can use a reversed wheel hub w a few nuts..slide that back n forth a few times..n out she pops

or sometimes its not enough and get an old rim thats stuffed and hit it from the back with a sledge hammer. only ever had 1 axel not come out that way! - and we left it in!
