Title: LD28 gearbox setup....Help
Post by: Brendeni on June 11, 2012, 01:32:21 PM
Hi Fellas......i need your help.

Finally, the beginning of the end is at sight. I have a LD28 Engine and Gearbox in my van...well almost. I have the following issues and need your advice.
1. The gearbox is too far back as you would expect, any ideas on how to have the stick where i want it. An extra longer lever could be made up but i would like to think that there is an alternative. I dont think that I would like the feel of the gearbox being so far back with an extended lever.
2. I really want to keep 3 seats in front as well. Does anyone have a LD28 setup with the 3 seats in front? What to do with the gear lever, remote link? How does that work?

Thanks Fellas

Made my own remote gearshift for an Anglia back in the day. Used a ball joint that I mounted on a plate that I attached to the gearbox using the existing cover plates on the box exactly where I wanted the new gear stick to be. Made up a new gear stick that screwed into the top of the ball joint. Cut the original stick short on the gearbox and welded a piece of bar to it and the ball joint shaft. If memory serves me right, the only issue I had was with reverse. Think I removed the wedge inside the original gear selector that prevents you from hitting reverse by accident. That was a Ford box so the Nissan may be different. Just means you gotta take care that you don't select reverse by mistake. A bit like the original manual box in a Bedford.

I'm sure there is a cleverer way to do it though.
