2. (http://www.cf280.in.odessa.ua/img/archive/10/original/18122011121.jpg)

My chassie number was covered up with something, paint etc Took vicroads bout 1/2 hr to fine it above the heater year 77. we had to scrap and scrap to get it. The numbers were fairly big pete

Ben, I thought that Holden, Vauxhall and Opel must have one rules about where must be placed the chassis numbers of the vans.
Sorry if I was wrong. I just want to help.

Is your van CF1 type?
If yes, so ...
G - year = 1976
J - assembly plant = ? (some Holden plant?)
Also you can check the year on your brake drums (if you don't have all disk brakes):
The year of my CF1 van is 1980 (see "23.3.80" (date/month/year) on picture).
-
cf1? non plastic front?
-
CF1 body (1969-1980)looks like:
CF1 "facelifting" (1980-1984):
Note: all drum brakes.
CF2 (1984-1987):
Note: Disk brakes (forward) and drum brakes (rear).
Note: All information above is correct for european manufacturers (Vauxhall and Opel) only. I don't know for sure when Holden stop producing the Bedford vans. :-(
-

-
So. ;-)
Your year is 1976.

no? not at all I always thought the body number was stamped just above or below the heater housing and the chassis number was on a plate.

not in our state victoria. the number above the heater is the chassis number.
i have had many vans registered without the compliance plates on them.
cheers
