Hi there everyone. Just thought Id drop in here and say guday to you all and show just how nuts I really am.
This is a piccy of my beddie on a trip from Bris-vagas. I could tell you some stories about this beddie I tell you.
She has just been a real gem from the minute I bought her.
I've had it for about ten years and traveled up and down to Qld from Vic and back again, sometimes several times a year, and it has had to pull some heavy loads.
Poor little thing sometimes just couldnt get up the range at Cunninghams Gap. She has a 202 red motor and an aussie 4 speed and heaven knows what the diff is, but with a top speed of 87K/h, it sure makes them really long trips. Hahahha

Gday mate, Gee Sounds like she performs like my ol beddy with red 202 and Aussie 4 speed I'm flat chat doing 85 too.
I see you're towing a boat? How does it handle pulling that up the ranges?
I've got a 14 foot boat on a trailer but I'm not confident she would go far without slowing me right down.
Although I see the kiwis have a lot of fun with their beddy campers and motorhomes pulling 16 and 18 footers.
Got some better pics of your rig or start a gallery with some for us to see. 8)

Glad to meet you Worby876. Thats only a little load coming back from Vegas to Melb. The boat is 5.5 mtr, & the load on the back didnt even come up to the roof line. Hahaha
The ranges certainly gave us something to think about, sometimes down to first gear to get up the inclines.... Sloooow As you can see I have the snub nose, so I dont get a lot of wind drag as you might. Is you 14 footer aly or fibreglass? A glass boat is a bit heavier. The only difference I found with loads, was the pickup time it takes to reach cruising speed. A bit slower but once there it did well, still had to drop a gear or two for some hills though.

Gooday ben,I still to this day dont know what diff is in it. When you say original, I guess you could say "That is so true" I'd like to find out a bit about it (ratio's and so on).

Thanks petrolhead, I will update my details now that I have a little bit more time on my hands.
Thank you for having such a great site. I am going to try to build a campervan soon & could use the help & advice from some that have already done these things.

My boat is fibre glass, not sure how much she weighs ...has. 15 HP outboard..
I will post a pic when I can...
First gear up the range ..with a bunch of cars waiting behind..ahhh the memories...
That's why I would really like to have the confidence to change the gear box to a
5 speed celica or. 6 speed t700 auto...maybe even a 9" ford hiway diff at 3.5:1 or
What ever is best for my rig.

Keep low diff 5.1 - 4.5 with th700 4 speed, this gives the top end in overdrive don't need the tall diff if you go to a 3.5 you are robbing your low down power that you need. Been there........... ;)

That's the way I'm planning to go. Mob in Melbourne do a TH700 4 speed auto that they reckon is strong enough for anything. Only problem is that it works out to be about 4k by the time I fit it into Beddy.
I'm toying with other sources including just getting one from the wreckers and bolting it in with the Dellow conversion plate and seeing how it goes. If it doesn't run right then I'll spend the money and get it reconditioned. I've lost nothing but time and a bit of auto oil to try it.

Don't forget to add the B&M Shift kit this will save the box and makes it a lot stronger so to speek, more postive change so you don't lose that much power and because the gears are not shifting over each other when they change the box stays a lot cooler, the kit comes with 2 set ups, For RV's - towing and Drag.
