Azazhq, maybe you can do something with that one.

Hey mty, considering leyland only built something like 70 P76s, i think you will find they are as rare as. As for the transit, well they are still a bit hard to get a hold of, only because they are so reliable, not to many end up at the wreckers. As for how easy are they to fit, well once we had all the templates made up, and bits and pieces, it took a full day to install, and the transit sits at 45deg, and P76 sits flat like the beddy rack. It took a couple of hrs to fabricate the new mounting bracket, but from there it just bolted up nice and easy. you could buy a transit rack new from ford, doing that, yes they are readily available, second hand not so easy. So good luck whichever way you go, for me though, the idea of being able to pick one up over the counter feels good.

There was actually about 16,000 P76's built. You'll still find some at wreckers.
I would probably go for the Transit rack, only because it's a bit more common.
The P76 rear bumper is also a good fit for the Bedford, seen this done a few times.

Hey George....Will you be using the holden V6 powersteering pump to power the transit rack? and have you modified the V6 sump and pickup? cheers..johnno
-
thanx George n zeeman for the info,
the new beddy camper has p76 power steering and it is really good (see pictures in my previous post on this thread), but the p76 dosent seem to have the same turning circle as the stock beddy one though.
my white van could turn on a dime as i remember.
i know a guy tyhat has a spare recond p76 rack and other parts id like so i might offer him a respray job on his other van for them.
always good to have spare parts hey.
cheers marty

I run Transit and VN Holden on my 2 vans, not as good a turn as the old rack, but when you can spin it back and forth a couple of extra times with your little finger, who cares.......... ;)

thats true Bas.

i dont think i could handle driving one without now.

I'm getting to old now not to have one........... ;D

Hey Johnno, yes i am using the VP pump. As for the sump, go to my gallery, i have some pics in there of the sump. When i bought the V6 kit they had a new sump and pick-up in it, so yep they do need to be changed when you do the V6 conversion.
I think i have pics in there, if not i will post some for you, their sump is heavy duty.Ok just checked and i dont have sump [ picks, give me an hour and will post some for you.

Got a p76 rack on our one and I wouldn't change it for the world, it's one of those things that once you have it you can't live without it. Any one that tows heavy trailers and have to back up a driveway and turn with all the weight over the front wheels would love a p76 rack. Turning circle wise, yeah it may be less but when you put big wheels on the front you can't go full lock with the beddy rack without rubbing, so has not effected us at all. But the transit system sounds very interesting, might do it on the next one, when ever that is :)

transit rack is better
why is a transit rack better ben?
-
easily available unlike the p76 one. did you know i have only ever seen 1 p76 in my entire life! dad recons he has seen 2 in the last 10 years! id say they are far rarer than the cf!
getting parts for the rack wont be easy when lehland went bust in the 70's..

so there only better because their more readly available??.
dosent mean transit ones are better in my eyes.
i was looking for teck info on why they were better.
ie/ turning circle, ease of fitting, etc.....
i know a bloke that has a fully recond one sitting in his spare room, might be a good thing to grab it i think.
