G'day all. So last weekend I saw a Bedford for sale. So I took it off the bloke for 650 (registered till march). Bit of rust but straight as a arrow. I've got toranas so the Holden side for me is easy. What gets me is the diff. From what research I've done it's a bedford diff. And it's running a Hq/Wb front? Someone said that they rev out and I'd be getting no where fast but she sat on 100 nicely and quietly (even with the dirty huge side pipe). It's running a 202 ( head gasket is blown but it still pulls like a 12yo) and mc6 box (not factory?) anywho the point of all this is:
Are there any easy (haha) Holden stud pattern diff conversions? I've searched the forums and haven't found much. And were the 4 speeds they came out with the gmh mc6 or m20.

Hey Torana Boy welcome to buga! 8) they will be callin ya bedford boy soon ;D watch out they get under ur skin mate!...sounds like u got a high speed diff did u take it up to 110 or 120 with no noise? u got put a chevy impala diff in it if u wanna the holden stud patten..but the high speed beddie diff should do ok ...Ray & Wendy...im sure others on buga will help out here.... ;)

The Bedford makes car number 9! Hopefully they don't become addictive like the toranas and geminis Haha. is there some way I can tell what diff it is? I couldn't find a plate with with the diff, engine, box etc. I'm keen to get her purring my mates love it and there isn't many getting round Hobart. Were they factory with the Holden front end? I'm assuming since they run the red motors. I did 110 no worries and I think the box is direct in 4th too... What ratio are the highway diffs and are they any good?I only really want to get rid of the diff so I can have the same stud pattern. Might see if I can get a Wb disc LSD in the old girl because I haven't seen any chevy diffs for sale in tassie... Cheers!

Hahaah ok bedford boy...if u did 110 u got a high speed diff...or highway diff...the slow spedd or town diff we had in our beddie when we bought her wouldnt do over 90k....hey ur mates are gunna be sooooo jealous now ;D u own a beddie. 8) hey i dont know the diff ratio and Rays in bed snoring now...im sure somone will answer all ur questions by the end of the week....oh yeah u def gotta post some pics asap to get all the bugas real excited ! ;)

hey man welcome to buga! i recon they are much more addictive that toranas n geminis only cause there so practicle and versetile..
reguards your diff delima i would guess you have a hwy diff refering to someone gradfting the centre from another diff into your orig bedford diff giving you the same width as orig diff. borg wagners are a common conversion.. ratio could be anything you need to spin the wheels and count turns of the tailshaft to figure that out. upload a pic of the centre cover plate and well be able to tell you what it is..
and you can get your axels re-drilled to hq stud pattern. there is plenty of meat on them so you shouldnt have a drama and it will save you a lot of hassles changing the diff.. see your local engineering workshop.
your other option is get a holden diff and get huge 10" rear wheels to fill things out. but that depends on what you can get your hands on

Cheers guys! I know how to work the diff ratio out just didn't know if it was a bedford diff. I guess I'll just have to measure and see what fits. Having fat 10"s filling the back would be mad so I think I'll go Holden diff and keep the Bedford one in the shed.

i have the same but a banjo diff.. easily changable centre(ratio). not quite as wide thou as the salsbury

Sailsbury and banjo's are the same widths in any model series ie hq -hz Holden

oh ok.. so that COULD mean mine came from an earlier narrower vehicle? ie torana? nice to know.. thats got me thinking:) might look at finding a hz one for an extra inch width (would be nice to see the wheels out a touch more)

Hey guys the 2nd last Street Machine the one with the purple 2door falcon had a heap of info about diffs & a list of diff lengths listed Would pay to get one & check out the dimentions
