Title: My Zero Turn
Post by: Bedfordcrazy on September 13, 2011, 11:45:55 AM
Hey Guys, i know this is not a bedford but it is my latest purchase. My new Cox Zero Turn Mower, awesome bit of machinery. From the outset let me tell you, this is a no thrills mower, no drink holders and fancy plastic trim, this is built for work, and does it work. This is a solid steel 21hp monster. It goes like the clappers, and the best part, it is all hand controlled from the factory, no peddles. I should say that i took these pics straight off the truck, any pics now will be dirty and covered in grass, yep gave it a good workout. In fact i am so impressed, i am thinking of getting another one, removing the cutting deck and gear and just using it a a buggy on my property, thats how much fun these things are,  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D never will i go back to a ride on mower.  ;) :D ;D
Well enough gabbing, here are some pics.

Hey Johnno, mate the best part of this ride is they built it to work, it cuts through everything, and does'nt miss a beat. Thick grass, wet and tall, also gives a golf course finish to the cut. I think though the cows are a bit pi****ed with me. lol  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Now, i am sure there are a few of you wondering how i get from my wheelchair onto the mower, well i solved that problem also, here are some pics of the solution, and some pics of my dirty zero turn after a spin round the proberty. I built the ramp from memory so its not a perfect fit, need to do some modifications to it so it sits snug without the block of wood there. PATIENCE.  ;) ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

the new mower is awsome George, bet u love mowing the lawns now?
 :)
i bought a hustler sport about a year ago, yours looks more flash, n red like  a porche.

zero turns are awsome,  i cant wait for the grass to grow now, its more fun than welding , spraypainting or even  sandblasting  :)

u should make a little trailer for her n paint it red.

Will you bugas stop reading my mind lol  ;) :D :D ;D ;D ;D ;D i am in the process of designing a trailer now  ;D ;D i have the holes for a hitch mount. I could buy one from my mower place, but they want $400+ for a pissy useless little thing, my design will be a multi-purpose trailer, no doubt my grandkids will want to ride in it LOL  ;D ;D ;D
Hey mty, the cox mowers are a no thrills machine, they are designed for work, and yep, i am watching the grass grow lol first time in decades i look forward to cutting the grass. These zeros leave the ride ons for dead, i will NEVER get another ride on after being on a zero. Amazing, the zeros in some cases are cheaper then a ride on, depending on brand and models.
Well i finished both my ramps for the bobcat and zero turn, just need carpet for the zero ramp, here are so pics.

Hey Johnno, at the moment with the ramp, i only go out on the mower if my wife or grandkids are here, reason being if i breakdown or something happens i dont get stranded out in the heat for hours waiting for someone to rescue me. So for now once i am on, my wife pulls the ramp away, and away i go, and the reverse when i am finished. Eventually what i am thinking about is a pully from the roof of the shed and i can pull, lift the ramp a few inches tie it off, and just pull in and drop the ramp, it would mean not having to rely on anyone.

hey george ,
 just a thought here,
you might want to put a car type towbar on the mower so you can tow a conventional 7x4 box trailer?
ive put them on the 3 conventional ride on mowers and just getting to the hustler sport zero now,.

this bodywork stripped MTD18/6sp has a 2 height towbar in this picture, but now also has a car towball towbar as well, will update pictures tomorow,
(http://i290.photobucket.com/albums/ll265/marty23121961/carport095-1.jpg)
little mower trailer i made with 50 x 50  steel boxtube, and used form ply as removable sides n floor,
(http://i290.photobucket.com/albums/ll265/marty23121961/Picture565.jpg)

also made the small trailer so i can raise or lower the trailer height,

a mower trailer comes in heaps handy when you make them tuff.

believe it or not all the mowers can tow this trailer i built with 2 mowers on piggyback,
(http://i290.photobucket.com/albums/ll265/marty23121961/P1015254.jpg)

the hustler sport zero turn
(http://i290.photobucket.com/albums/ll265/marty23121961/carport016-2.jpg)

will put up some pictures of the other highlevel checkerplate  mower trailer tomorow when i get pictures, hope these pictures  gives you some ideas George.

Awesome Marty, your trailers get a real workout. Some great ideas, the only thing i have to buy is an axel assembly, have to go to bunnings tomorrow so will try them see what they have. As for steel, i have heaps sitting on my racks, and as for help, well i have 3 outa 4 grandkids that are into fabricating lol 5yr old just has to help.  ;D ;D ;D ;)

thanx george,  :)
mate i wouldnt buy an axle n wheels from bunnyings,
those red wheels on the steel n formply trailer are from bunnings, they were expensive and are cheap sheit, they get flat tyres running over boganvelia cuttings.  >:(
id look at getting a set of rear wheels of a wrecked ride on mower or a set of 10inch boat trailer wheels off of ebay or a mower shop, they are tuffer, im going to get a set to replace the bunnyings ones, lol

sorry i never got the other pictures today,
i went looking for a set of HQ -WB Top tailgate pannel van hinges for my mates 1948 chev hotrod to use as boot hinges and the guy i visited to get them had none but i stayed there for hours rebuildin his computer for him, lol.
the things we do, haha
will get the pictures tomorow i promise, :)

cheers marty

hey george,
here is the pictures of the one that i made with alloy checkerplate, and used small boat trailer wheels.

and as you can see by the underneath picture it was very easy to construct in about an hour,  and the boxtrailer in the background of the first picture took me a weekend to build, with the help of a bottle of burbon and 4 bottles of coke, :D, it cost me $487. to get galvanise dipped, i nearly died when i went to pick it up n they hit me with that bill, it cost more than the steel i used.

comes in very handy for moving things around the farm here.

cheers marty

Hey marty, thanks for the pics, they will be a big help. That last pic, is that just a stock boat trailer axel and wheels ?  that is all i was thinking of doing, a non complicated axel system. If it is a boat, then i should be able to get it from the local trailer place.
As for the boganvillia, man we had that much here when we moved in, every time i went to the letter box i would have a flat tyre on my chair, so i did the only thing a frustrated guy in a chair could do , i jumped into the bobcat and ripped the crap out of the ground. My place is a bogy free zone, gotta love the bobcat.
Here is a pic of the trailer i built for my go-karts, b4 i was in a chair, took my a week of work, i just bought all the bits, raw steel, and created a gem.

cool go cart trailer there george.
yeah its just a standard boat trailer axle n wheels i bought off ebay for abour $27

and i just welded it to a straight piece of 50 x 50 box no need for suspension at my place,
but if your going to carry kids on it id probebly put some soft ride springs so it dont hurt their little backs n jar their little bones etc,
 ;D airbag it lol,
safty first always  ;)

Hey Marty, well looks like the trailer build is a go, a mate works in a steel plant, he has night shift next week so is going to machine up an axel for me, and we have some large nuematic wheelbarrow wheels with some nice chunky treaded tyres. The wheels have sealed bearings so just have to wait for the axel, and i can start welding.  ;D ;D ;D MMMM what colour to paint it, mmmmmmm ;) ;D how about powdercoat it fire engine red to match the zero.   ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D Should'nt take long to knock it up, will post pics as i go, and finished trailer.

Stop putting of the BEDDY,
Title: Re: My Zero Turn
Post by: Bedfordcrazy on September 26, 2011, 08:23:30 AM
yeah i know rossie, this is the plan. I am trying to get as much unbeddy stuff done around here this year, stuff that was let go while working on the beddy, then starting in 2012, i am going to try and finish the van off. One job that is mandatory is to rebuild a ramp outside, no ramp no getting around. Sometime in december i will be ringing the old trades to try and get them back on board to finish the van, those that dont want to mean i will need to find others. for now i dont want to worry about it, but it will get finished. 97% of the fabrication is finished, it is so close to being blasted, painted and put back together.
Lets see: Need to do the gearshifter mount inside, finish all the led lights, diff, rebuild engine and gearbox, fabricate new dash/consoles, finish aircon control module, rebuild suspension, deck out inside, mmmmm yeah still few things to do.  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;) ;) ;) ;) there is probably $20,000-00 worth of work to do.

Just need to connect all the electricals up and i will post the pics of the transformation. Just so you know it is all safty mods that i did, but are they different. Stay tuned. ;D ;D ;D ;D

Hey guys, well i got my wheels and axel yesterday for my garden trailer for zero turn, so am signing off here and heading down to the workshop to start looking at fabrication. My neighbour that turned the axel for me got a peek at my zero turm modifications and was impressed, so not long now, just need to finish the trailer, take some pics, and i will post them.
I wish building a beddy was as easy as doing my mower. lol  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;) ;)

Well finally got the hardest part of my modifications done, mostly electrical and safety. Because i live on on acerage and need to do the footpath i added running lights to the front and a flashing safety light to the rear, hopefully the hoons will see me b4 hitting me. I also added a drink bottle holder/esky,  ;D i can carry a bottle of gatorade, and if it is really hot i can drop in some ice to keep it chilled.  ;) ;) ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D Also had to fabricate a switch panel to mount all my switches to run the lights, still need to fit a horn, just in case i break down and need to get someones attention.  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D Still to do is a tow hitch for the trailer, but that should be done soon, so will post those pics as they happen.

here are some pics.
